Divine Performance Art advertise upsets me

Editor's notes: Baochun bought tickets of Divine Performance Art held in US Portland on January 20 for her mother and herself, as a celebration of the new year, because she got an impression that it was mainly Chinese classic dancing from the ads.

Divine Performance Art has done a very good marketing. I see their ads everywhere, from Chinese news paper to Bally gym. From their ads, I got the impression that it is mainly Chinese classic dancing. Since the Chinese New Year is near, I bought tickets for my mother and myself, as a celebration of the new year. Winnie, Mei and Abbie all bought tickets for their families.

Last night with great expectation we went. Boy, we got a big surprise. The handout program booklet mentioned that many dancers are FaLun Gong practitioners. This is the first time I see the connection. The ads I saw didn't mention a word of FaLun Gong. As the show unfolds, the connection is plain and direct. Not only the lyrics for all the songs are about DaFa, some of the dances are also directly related to FaLun Gong, one is even about how the Communist Party tortures FaLun Gong practitioners.

I am not FaLun Gong practitioner, but I have nothing against them either. We should have religious freedom, even though we don't necessarily agree with each other's beliefs. But the way the Divine Performance Art advertise itself upsets me. They intentionally omit this very important theme of their performance and give people the false impression that it is about classic dance.

The dance itself was beautiful and the digital backdrop is innovative. I wish they are more upfront about their Falun Gong message!
