Liu Zhen (pseudonym), 50 years old this year, was once a female teacher working at a primary school in the jurisdiction of Baishan City, Jilin Province. Her husband became a taxi driver after being laid off. Their son injured his right leg in a car accident. Because Liu Zhen firmly believed in Li Hongzhi's heretical teachings such as "protection by the law bodies" and "eliminating karma to cure disease" and insisted on praying for her son's recovery instead of seeking medical treatment, her son finally became a cripple. Liu Zhen's involvement in the illegal activities of Falun Gong led to her violation of criminal law, marking the loss of a once excellent backbone teacher.
Academically excellent teacher with remarkable achievements
Born in the spring of 1973 in a remote mountain village, Liu Zhen grew up in a large family with many siblings. Due to her diligent and hardworking nature, Liu Zhen always ranked at the top of her class. Although attending university was her dream, she chose to alleviate her family's financial burden by enrolling in a publicly funded normal college after graduating from senior high school.
Upon graduation, Liu Zhen secured a stable job and devoted herself to exploring new teaching methods and continuously improving her cultural literacy. Her graceful demeanor, serious yet not rigid teaching style, and wisdom in education quickly made her a key teaching figure in her school. She loved her students and served as a role model for them, gaining experience and insights in organizational management, self-regulation and self-reflection, teaching innovation, and student observation. She published many educational papers and received widespread praise from school leaders and colleagues.
Being led astray by cult and refusing to return
Due to years of hard work, Liu Zhen had a deteriorated health condition accompanied by heart disease, high blood pressure, and frequent bouts of bronchitis. She often felt dizzy and weak, and even sometimes fainted at work.
In the spring of 1998, the practice of Falun Gong became popular locally. Liu Zhen heard from a practitioner that Falun Gong had many benefits, not only improving physical health but also "eliminating karma and curing disease" without the need for medication or injections. It could also help people to pursue "truthfulness, compassion and forbearance", to "be a good person", and ultimately to achieve “the true way" and "Perfection" and bring blessings to the entire family... Hearing that the practice was so simple and practical, Liu Zhen wanted to cure her chronic diseases through practicing Falun Gong, so she started practicing it daily. Eventually she became obsessed with it.
After practicing it for a period, she still had severe coughing and wheezing. Her family advised her to stop practicing Falun Gong and go to the hospital for a check-up and proper treatment. However, she said, "I am eliminating karma. The 'Master' will help me cleanse my body. Practicing it will cure my illness, while going to the hospital won't remove 'karmic forces'..." Her relatives could only shake their heads in dismay.
In July 1999, the government legally banned Falun Gong. Under the persuasion of her school and relatives, Liu Zhen did not go out to practice Falun Gong anymore, but she secretly practiced it at home. Her husband said to her: “The state has banned Falun Gong, so continuing to practice it is illegal. You are a public servant and a teacher. I have been laid off, and only your job is relatively stable. You should think about yourself and our family...” However, Liu Zhen was stubborn and she continued to practice, leaving her husband helpless.
Indulging in evil thoughts ultimately causes her disability
In 2011, while her son was returning home from junior high school, the boy was accidentally hit by a car, immediately losing sensation in his right leg. The kind passer-by quickly called an ambulance. Upon hearing the news, Liu Zhen rushed to the scene. However, she was unusually calm because she firmly believed that with the protection of "Dafa" and the blessing from the Master’s “Law bodies", her son's injured leg would soon recover. No matter how others tried to persuade her, Liu Zhen insisted on not taking her son to the hospital, which surprised everyone present.
Upon returning home, the husband was frantic. He went to a well-known orthopedic clinic on the street to get prescription medication, intending to apply it to his son's injury. However, Liu Zhen was completely absorbed in the fallacies of Falun Gong, insisting on using Falun Gong for treatment and even inviting fellow practitioners to chant beside her son's bed in hopes of a miracle.
Liu Zhen’s husband angrily yelled at her, "You neither allow our son to go to the hospital nor allow us to apply medication. If this goes on, our son will lose a leg. Once there are consequences, regret will be useless!”
At that moment, Liu Zhen thought to herself: “The doctor's words are frightening. However, my son’s leg is fine, isn’t it? After helping my son through this ordeal, I must ask him to practice Falun Gong with me. In this way, our whole family can achieve 'Perfection', become immortals or Buddhas, and live in the Heaven of Falun World.”
Several months later, her son began to slowly move around on his feet. Other practitioners who had sent forth “righteous thoughts” together loudly praised the power of "Dafa", claiming that without the protection from the "Master's “Law-bodies" and the blessing from "Dafa", this leg would have been useless long ago. They said, it was their sincerity that brought about such a good effect. In their opinion, going to the hospital would have cost tens of thousands of yuan at least, and worst of all, the "karma" would return to the body.
Unbeknownst to many, due to the lack of metal pins and screws for fixation, the lack of proper alignment and correction of the dislocated bones, and the lack of nutritional support for the injured leg, Liu Zhen's son's leg, which was not treated scientifically, eventually healed but with bones misaligned. This caused an imbalance in his walk, resulting in a permanent limp and lifelong inconvenience.
Stubbornly persisting in practicing Falun Gong harmed herself and her family
Liu Zhen devoted all her time and energy to Falun Gong. She ignored the advice and concerns of her leaders and colleagues. She even attempted to spread the cult's heresies in her classroom, for which she was punished and removed from her teaching position, ending her teaching career. However, contrary to her usual self, Liu Zhen happily took up a position in the school's logistics department. She believed that all of this was arranged by her "master” to help her let go of fame and fortune. Moreover, with more free time in her new position, she found it an ideal opportunity to practice and study the Falun Gong teachings.
Finally, during her participation in an illegal activity, Liu Zhen, a core member of Falun Gong, was finally arrested. The prosecutorial authorities charged her with using a cult organization to undermine the implementation of the law. An energetic and ambitious excellent teacher was thus destroyed by the cult Falun Gong, leaving only people's sighs and indignation towards the cult organization!
