An outdoor multiplex with 15 projection screens, a 360-degree rotating auditorium, beautiful landscapes and music. Zhang Yimou's outdoor musical show "Impression Da Hong Pao", which officially opened on Monday after months of trial running, has an all-in-one package.
The stage of "Impression Da Hong Pao" was set up amidst the natural landscape of the Wuyi Mountains, in southeastern China. Da Hong Pao, a superior oolong tea, grows there.
Co-directed by Zhang Yimou, Wang Chaoge and Fan Yue, the 70-minute show includes stage performances and short films, exhibiting the rich Da Hong Pao culture.
Audiences got a panoramic view of the stage thanks to the rotating auditorium. Folk tales were told on the huge screens, giving the venue the feel of an open-air cinema.
The show is the fifth of Zhang Yimou's "Impression" series, with each dedicated to a place of unique culture. The previous shows, such as "Impression West Lake" and "Impression Lijiang", have become local tourist attractions.
The latest "Impression Da Hong Pao" began its trial run in January, and has so far welcomed at least 40,000 spectators, according to the Zhejiang Daily.
