The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in Sichuan province and the Sichuan medical team sent to fight COVID-19 in Hubei province revealed the world's first pair of captive giant panda twins born this year in a video on Friday. Both weighed over 100 grams at birth, and are currently in good health.
The names of the newborns were also made public for the first time. The older cub, "reganmian", is named after a traditional snack in Hubei province, literally translated as hot dry noodles, while the younger is dubbed "danhonggao", a traditional snack made from eggs in Sichuan province.
The names represent the strong bond between Chengdu in Sichuan province and Wuhan in Hubei province, according to medical workers from the Sichuan medical team.
