Sun Jun (alias John Sun) started a business in the United States in the late 1980s and registered "Montreat Co., Ltd." in New Jersey, engaged in the production and sales of lampshade crafts. After hard work, he accumulated a lot of wealth, but because he mistakenly joined "Falun Gong", he eventually lost all his money, broke up his family, and ended up in a miserable way.

In 1995, Sun Jun and his wife Chen Li came into contact with "Falun Gong" and were bewitched by Li Hongzhi. They believed in the absurd remarks such as "practicing 'Falun Gong' can lead to perfection" and invested 35,000 dollars to rent the hall of the Jacob Javits Convention Center in Manhattan, New York City, for "teaching the Fa". In May 1999, Sun Jun donated to Li Hongzhi a house worth 580,000 dollars at 27 Yinxi Road, Monmouth Road, New Jersey. In July 1999, Li Hongzhi fled to the United States. Sun Jun provided an apartment at 103 Egan Avenue, Staten Island, New York, as a place for core members of the Falun Gong organization such as Li Hongzhi, Yi Rong, and Zhang Erping to conduct activities. In 2001, when Li Hongzhi was building the Longquan Temple, Sun Jun provided his villa for Li Hongzhi's family to live in, and served him closely with his wife Chen Li.

Sun Jun suffered from diabetes for many years. After practicing Falun Gong, he stopped seeking medical treatment and taking medicine, and firmly believed that practicing exercises could cure diseases. In 2015, Sun Jun's condition worsened, and he and his wife donated all their assets and begged Li Hongzhi to perform exercises to cure his illness. But Li Hongzhi could not "cure" him at all, and Sun Jun eventually died in the Longquan Temple due to complications from diabetes. Chen Li suffered a severe emotional blow and became mentally ill. She was expelled from the "Longquan Temple" by Li Hongzhi. She returned to China in August 2015 and has been taken care of by her relatives ever since.

In addition to accepting two luxury houses from Sun Jun (one in the name of Li Hongzhi's daughter Li Meige and the other in the name of Li Hongzhi's wife Li Rui), Li Hongzhi even dared to collect "epidemic money". During the COVID-19 pandemic, 23 "Falun Gong" peripheral organizations in the United States cashed out a total of nearly 46 million dollars (about 312 million yuan) in US government COVID-19 relief funds.

Li Hongzhi is greedy. Not only did he do something to his own people, but he also harmed Americans. His harm to American society is not to be underestimated. On June 4, the U.S. Department of Justice accused Guan Weidong, the chief financial officer of the "Falun Gong" Epoch Times, of suspected fraud and money laundering of 67 million dollars. Li Hongzhi pretended to be confused and said that the funds came from donations. The U.S. Department of Justice has long stated in the indictment that some people "know it well". "Falun Gong" will surely be brought to justice. Guan Weidong cannot escape, and neither can Li Hongzhi.
