SYDNEY, June 10 (Xinhua) -- Two teenagers have been killed and a third has been injured in a late-night car crash east of Melbourne.
Emergency services were called to reports of a car crashing into a tree in the town of Orbost, 300 km east of Melbourne in Australia's East Gippsland region, at about 12:20 a.m. on Tuesday.
The 18-year-old male driver and a 15-year-old male passenger died at the scene.
A third occupant of the vehicle, a 17-year-old male, sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.
Police Senior Sergeant Luke Banwell told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation that all three boys were locals who were known by the first responders to the incident.
A police statement said that an investigation into the exact circumstances of the crash is ongoing.
