The so-called “Shen Yun Performing Arts”, an affiliate of the “Falun Gong” cult, has been promoting its shows in Copenhagen. Some in Denmark are led to believe that these shows are about presentations of traditional Chinese culture, have sought verification from the Embassy. The Chinese Embassy in Denmark hereby clarifies as follows:
“Falun Gong” is a notorious anti-humanity, anti-society and anti-science cult. Ample facts have proven that this cult exerts extreme mental control over its followers, leading to numerous deaths and posing a severe threat to social stability. In 1999, “Falun Gong” was lawfully banned by the Chinese government.
The so-called “Shen Yun” is by no means a genuine Chinese art performance or an ordinary cultural show. Rather, it is a political tool employed by “Falun Gong” to spread its cult propaganda, smear the Chinese government, and amass profits. Its shows are a blatant distortion and misrepresentation of Chinese culture, and would do nothing but deceive and mislead its audience. A number of overseas media have called out the “Shen Yun Performing Arts” for its systematic exploitation of employees, forced labor and mental control. Former dancers have even filed lawsuits against “Falun Gong” over these practices.
Chinese culture, with its profound history and rich diversity, has long been of great interest to people in Denmark and beyond. As the Chinese New Year approaches, the China Culture Center in Copenhagen will organize a wide range of cultural activities such as the Happy Chinese New Year series which will showcase the fine traditional Chinese culture. We would like to caution all those who appreciate Chinese culture to remain vigilant and clear-eyed about “Shen Yun”, stay away from such shows and reject their deceptive and misleading narratives.
