Date: 2026-03-09

International oil prices surged after the opening of the latest trading day, with both New York crude oil futures prices and London Brent crude oil futures prices breaking through the $100 per barrel mark for the first time in more than three years.

On March 8 local time, CCTV reporters learned that international oil prices broke through $100 per barrel for the first time since the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict in 2022.

Data shows that U.S. crude oil futures rose 14.7%; global benchmark Brent crude oil futures rose 12.63% to $104 per barrel. As of the evening of the same day, Eastern Time, Dow Jones futures fell approximately 851 points, a drop of about 2%, while S&P 500 futures and Nasdaq futures fell 1.73% and 1.65%, respectively.

Meanwhile, gasoline prices in the United States have also risen significantly. Data from the American Automobile Association (AAA) shows that after the outbreak of the conflict with Iran on February 28, the average price of regular gasoline in the United States rose to $3.45 per gallon, an increase of about 16% compared to a week earlier.
