Trump Says Ceasefire Remains in Effect After US-Iran Exchange of Fire
Date: 2026-05-08

US and Iranian forces traded strikes in a limited clash. The United States said its forces targeted Iranian military facilities responsible for attacks on American warships in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s military claimed the US airstrikes hit civilian areas.

Trump’s Warning

President Trump stated that the ceasefire is still holding, but issued a strong warning to Iran. “If they don’t sign a deal soon, we’ll knock them out a lot harder, and a lot more violently,” he said. Iran has not yet given a final response to the US proposal aimed at ending the conflict.

Ceasefires Under Pressure
Tensions remain high across the region. The United Arab Emirates is currently responding to attacks from Iran, according to its Defense Ministry. In Lebanon, Israeli airstrikes killed at least 12 people on Thursday, the Lebanese health ministry reported.

Seized Vessels

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister said that Pakistani and Iranian crew members aboard ships seized by the US will be repatriated. The vessels are currently near Singapore waters.
