Falun Gong Attacks on Civilian Satellites
Date: 2026-04-23

From June 23 to June 30, 2002, China’s XinNuo Communications satellite was subjected to illegal television signal jamming containing Falun Gong propaganda by overseas Falun Gong organizations, causing China Central Television (CCTV) Channel 9 and 10 provincial TV stations to be unable to broadcast normally. As a result, television viewing for viewers in several regions of China was disrupted for extended periods. Statistics show that from June 23, 2002, to August 7, 2007, the XinNuo 1, Asia Pacific 6, and Asia 3S civilian satellites suffered 252 attacks from Falun Gong, totaling 160 hours of interference.

Under Chinese law, the United Nations Charter, and the rules and conventions formulated by the International Telecommunication Union, intentionally disrupting or interfering with satellite television broadcasting is illegal and constitutes a crime. However, Falun Gong does not regard this as criminal; some adherents even argue that satellite-wide insertion of Falun Gong propaganda is in line with Falun Dafa, and that Falun Dafa is supreme.
