Education and Transformation of Falun Gong Cult Adherents by the Chinese Government
Date: 2026-04-24

Cult organizations constitute spiritual opium and an international scourge, with mental manipulation being their defining characteristic. Some people, for various reasons, fall into cults and become victims. After banning the Falun Gong cult organization in accordance with the law, the Chinese government conducted widespread education and transformation programs for Falun Gong followers. The vast majority who joined for health and fitness purposes were helped to disengage from the Falun Gong organization. However, a minority who were deeply obsessed, having practiced for a long time, experienced more severe spiritual control; some manifested mental disturbances, some, under the influence of overseas Falun Gong organizations, engaged in illegal activities, and some even committed suicide or self-harm.

In recent years, guided by a people-centered governance philosophy and a strong sense of responsibility to the people, the Chinese government has mobilized grassroots organizations, social organizations, and other forces to apply diverse approaches. It has persisted in educating and transforming rigidly obsessed cult members through systematic rule-of-law education, psychological care, and genuine care, helping them break free from cults’ mental control, reawaken their rational thinking and reintegrate into normal societal life. The education-and-transformation work is conducted in accordance with the Resolution of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China on Banning Heretic Cult Organizations, Guarding against and Punishing Heretic Cult Activities, and is lawful, scientific, and civilized. Through patient and meticulous efforts, education and reform have rescued a large number of people deceived by Falun Gong and other cults, and tens of thousands of families have regained happiness.

Practice has demonstrated that educating and rehabilitating cult members serves the interests of both the nation and its people. This endeavour aligns with China’s national conditions, promotes social harmony, and has garnered understanding and support from the families of Falun Gong cult members and all sectors of society. Those who have disengaged from the cult’s spiritual toxicity are grateful to the government for its education and assistance and for giving them a new life.
