From December 8th to 10th, 2023, the 7th China-International Organ Donation Conference (CIODC) and the International Cooperation and Development Forum on Organ Donation & Transplantation along the “Belt and Road Initiative” were held in Nanning City, China. More than 750 experts and scholars from over 30 countries gathered to exchange views and discuss the theme of “Promoting the high-quality construction of organ donation along  the ‘Belt and Road Initiative’,and working together to achieve common development and prosperity.” Participants of the meeting shared experiences and technologies in organ donation and transplantation, aiming to further improve the accessibility and sustainable development capacity of organ transplantation services and benefit more people with organ transplantation technology.

During the conference, Huang Jiefu, the Director of the China Organ Transplantation and Donation Committee and the Chairman of the Advisory Committee of the China Organ Transplant Development Foundation, stated in an interview: “’With sails unfurled, we sail across the sea; when the wind is strong, we will break through the waves’. This line is from the Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai's 'A Difficult Journey'. It effectively expresses the progress of organ donation and transplantation reform in China. No matter how the cult organization of Falun Gong tries to smear China by spreading rumors, they cannot stop the progress of our organ donation and transplantation reform. The power of justice will surely overcome evil.”

As the saying goes, “Rumors stop at the wise,” and the truth is the most powerful evidence to debunk rumors.

As we all know, since 2006, the cult of Falun Gong has fabricated the rumor of “live organ harvesting” and, through cultic propaganda and smearing, attracted the attention of some people. Due to the glaring absurdity of the rumor, it has been unanimously refuted by the international community. However, the reactionary political nature of the Falun Gong cult determines that it will never accept failure. With the instigation and support of anti-China forces in the West, the rumor of “live organ harvesting” has been repeatedly hyped up.

“A clean hand wants no washing.” Over the years, China has insisted on deepening international cooperation, openly and transparently demonstrating the effectiveness of China's organ donation and transplantation work within the framework of the World Health Organization. China actively participates in the governance of international organ donation and transplantation, shares the Chinese solution for organ donation and transplantation with countries around the world, and has been recognized and applauded by countries worldwide. It is also the most powerful response to the cult rumor of "live organ harvesting". The strong refutation by authoritative experts at the organ donation and transplantation conferences has dealt a fatal blow to the "live organ harvesting" rumors spread by Falun Gong.

Since it is a lie, we must speak with facts.

Domestic authoritative media exposes the absurdity and reactionary nature of the “live organ harvesting” rumor.

In October 2016, People's Daily published an article titled “The ‘Live Organ Harvesting’ is a Huge Lie”, which exposed the fabricated rumors spread by Falun Gong from a historical and realistic perspective. It revealed that these rumors were a grand deception and a farce orchestrated by Falun Gong cult with the aim of smearing China, deceiving the international community, and covering up its own cultic nature. On November 12, 2016, CCTV's program Focus Interview aired an episode titled “Respecting Life-Saving Organs”, which refuted the rumors spread by certain hostile foreign forces through the Falun Gong cult organization with irrefutable facts. It hailed the tremendous progress and achievements made in China's organ donation and transplantation industry, and pointed out that the “live organ harvesting” rumors spread by Falun Gong cult were an insult and disrespect to transplant doctors, voluntary organ donors, and their families.

The international community has recognized the rumor of “live organ harvesting” by Falun Gong as groundless and has openly refuted it.

On April 14, 2006, Sean McCormack, spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State, claimed that after sending personnel to investigate on-site, the United States found no evidence to support the accusation of “live organ harvesting” by Falun Gong.

On May 28, 2007, Peter Baxter, Chief Assistant Secretary of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, responded to Senator Nettle's inquiry about organ transplantation in China and the accusation of “live organ harvesting” from Falun Gong practitioners. He stated that the Australian government found no evidence to support the accusation of “live organ harvesting” by Falun Gong. The “evidence” provided in David Kilgour's report cannot confirm the accusation, and no major international human rights organization can prove the accusation to be true!

CNN, Associated Press, The Washington Post, Reuters, Asahi Shimbun, Ottawa Citizen and other media around the world have successively conducted on-site interviews at the Sujiatun Thrombosis Hospital, confirming that the so-called “Sujiatun Concentration Camp” is purely fictitious.

On August 8, 2017, the Malaysian media Star Online published an article titled “Organ Transplant Experts Refute the Rumors of Falun Gong”. The article featured several international experts in the field of organ donation and transplantation who debunked the rumors fabricated by the Falun Gong cult organization about its followers being subjected to organ harvesting in China. The experts cautioned against letting the rumors of Falun Gong hinder the progress of organ transplantation, and believed that China will become a powerhouse in organ donation and transplantation.

People around the world strongly condemn the absurdity of "live organ harvesting" rumors.

On July 11, 2019, netizen Jeffrey C published an article titled “The dark truths of Falun Gong” on the famous platform Medium.com, revealing the street performance of “live organ harvesting” by Falun Gong and solemnly pointing out, a true religion valued true belief and followed true devotion, and would never showcase and spread their political views to the nation.

On September 15, 2017, The Washington Post published an article by Simon Denyer, who was in charge of China affairs at the newspaper. The article refuted the absurd views and evidence of Falun Gong and its agents David Kilgour, Ethan Gutmann, and others, and cited examples to illustrate that there were more and more voluntary organ donors in China who considered organ donation as a continuation of life.

On September 30, 2019, American writer and activist Ryan McCarthy wrote an article on the independent media website "The Gray Zone" (thegrayzone.com), pointing out the close relationship between David Kilgour, David Matas, Ethan Gutmann, and other spokespersons for the Falun Gong cult. He concluded that these individuals had a symbiotic relationship with the Falun Gong cult (and even other cults), as they rejected the professional investigations conducted by reputable media and medical professionals, and instead provided false evidence for each other. The Falun Gong cult was the mastermind behind the organization and spokespersons spreading the rumor of “live organ harvesting”.

Domestic and foreign medical experts and scholars jointly criticize the lack of credibility of the “live organ harvesting” rumors.

From August 21st to 23rd, 2016, at the 26th International Congress of the Transplantation Society held in Hong Kong, China, Dr. Jose R. Nunez, the official in charge of organ transplantation projects at the World Health Organization, told reporters from China and abroad, that the claim of 60,000 to 100,000 organ transplantations in China every year was impossible, whether as an official of the World Health Organization or as a professional doctor.

Mr. Francis Deimonico, former president of the Transplantation Society and professor of surgery at Harvard Medical School, described China's acceptance of WHO principles in organ donation and transplantation as “entering the international family”, which was encouraging. He also mentioned that he had attended a hearing in the US Congress on organ transplantation in China and believed that the issue was filled with political debates, but “we care about patients, not politics”.

During interviews at the 7th China International Organ Donation Conference (CIODC) and the “Belt and Road Organ Donation and Transplantation International Cooperation Development Forum” in Nanning, several experts and scholars unanimously criticized the unfounded rumors of “live organ harvesting” spread by Falun Gong.

John Fung, the incoming president of the International Transplantation Society, said in response to reporters' questions that, some conspiracy theories continuously suppress China's achievements in organ transplantation and even spread false information to further damage China's reputation. He praised China's achievements in organ transplantation, stating that they were on par with any other country in the world. Based on their on-site investigations, they believed that China's organ transplantation work met ethical standards.

Ms. Chloë Ballesté, a member of the European Organ Transplantation Association, said in an interview that, “We have been cooperating with hospitals and medical staff in China in the field of organ transplantation. We understand the standards and progress of organ transplantation in China very well. China's practices are legal and regulated. And such cooperation will continue in the future.”

▲Chloë Ballesté: Member of the European Organ Transplantation Association

Mr. Martí Manyalich, President of the Spanish DTI Foundation, also pointed out in response to reporters' questions that, Falun Gong spread rumors and smeared China, “I have seen them at other international conferences as well. For me, I have been to hospitals in China and witnessed how organ transplantation is carried out. I have personally seen that China's practices are completely in line with European standards. I believe that China's widespread practices in organ transplantation are strictly regulated and contrary to the rumors spread by anti-China organizations.” He praised that China had done a very good job in organ transplantation and could be compared to European and American countries.

Mr. Hou Fengzhong, Director of the China Organ Donation and Transplantation Management Center, said in response to questions from reporters that, regarding the smear and rumors spread by the Falun Gong organization, “I believe the truth will speak for itself, and rumors are just rumors. In fact, many foreign experts, scholars, and those who have interacted with us have sincerely recognized and praised China's organ donation and transplantation work after fully understanding it. Our core focus is still on doing a good job in organ donation and transplantation, and by doing our work well, those rumors will naturally be debunked.”

The consecutive statements from experts have powerfully proven how absurd the rumor of "live organ harvesting" by Falun Gong is. As Huang Jiefu, a Chinese authority on organ transplantation, has mentioned, the Chinese government is "doing good things on a right path," and "as long as the work of organ donation is done well, no one can deceive history or distort the facts, no matter what they say."

The Chinese Story of Organ Donation and Transplantation

Today, China is a country governed by the rule of law, and the Chinese government is a responsible government that does not allow any illegal activities, let alone illegal organ transplantation. China has a comprehensive system for donation and transplantation that involves the whole society. The organ transplantation in China is not sustained by “live organ harvesting” as claimed by the Falun Gong cult. The accusation that organs come from "conscience prisoners" such as Falun Gong followers is purely slanderous.

Organ transplantation is a great progress in medical development, which is related to the value and dignity of life, and social fairness and justice. It brings hope of life to countless organ failure patients.

Up to now, China has completed more than 49,000 donations, donated more than 150,000 organs, and the number of registered volunteers for organ donation nationwide has exceeded 6.55 million. China has ranked second in the world and first in Asia for organ donation and transplantation for seven consecutive years.

A series of eye-catching data shows that the “Chinese model” has achieved great success. In the face of these great achievements, the rumor of “live organ harvesting” has no market. Whom can it deceive? The more absurd the cultic lie, the more it will arouse the indignation and contempt of the world and ultimately, bringing disgrace upon the cult itself.

The source of human organs used for transplantation in China is clear, legal, reasonable, and transparent. The volunteer team for organ donation is large and rapidly developing. China's organ transplantation technologies and quality are reliable, making tremendous contributions to protecting people's health and saving lives, and have achieved astonishing achievements, worthy of the world's trust.

The rumor of the “live organ harvesting” by Falun Gong cannot shake the world's trust in China. It is nothing more than a “rabid dog barking at the sun”, or a “mantis trying to stop a chariot”, and cannot stop China's rapid progress in various fields. Chinese civilization will surely make greater contributions to world civilization.
