Liu Fengqin, 61, a retired worker from the Tianjin Post and Telecommunication Equipment Factory.
At the end of 1995, Liu Fengqin came across Falun Gong practitioners in Haihe Park and was introduced into the group. Liu practiced Falun Gong three times a day, at five o'clock in the morning, seven at night and at midnight. After she started practicing, she seemed to become distraught. She would stop what she was doing all of a sudden and say, "My teacher has come here to 'dispel karma' in me." Her husband liked fishing, and she quarreled with him: "Don't kill life." When her son and daughter-in-law tried to persuade her to get medical treatment and stop practicing Falun Gong, she said, "You're 'Mara,' the unenlightened. I won't talk to you." She was so swayed by Falun Gong that she not only refused to take medicine but even not let doctors take her blood pressure. In November 1997, Liu Fengqin had a bicycle accident and broke a bone. When her son learned, he went to the scene and hailed a taxi to drive her to the hospital, but she kept refusing to go. After a long struggle, she was taken to the Tianjin Hospital, where she held tight to a pillar in the lobby and said, "I've almost achieved divinity. Now, if you put me in the hospital, I'll kill myself right now."
Back home, Liu Fengqin continued practicing Falun Gong although she looked haggard and could only move around clumsily. She fixed her eyes on Li Hongzhi's photo, listened to Falun Gong tapes and asked children to burn incense and worship Li for her. Whenever the pain was unbearable, she would shout, "Come and save me, Master Li!" In the morning of December 27, 1997, Liu Fengqin cried out, "Save me, Master…." Her voice became fainter and fainter, and finally she breathed her last and died.
