Ms. Chen, 50, retired and with college education. She was in poor health and was diagnosed in 1987 as suffering from affective dysphrenia. She had to take medicine regularly. She began to practice Falun Gong since July 1998. She stopped taking medicine early in 1999, because she believed Li Hongzhi's doctrine that anyone who believed in and practiced Falun Gong did not need to take medicine to cure diseases. Two months later, she had a relapse and was diagnosed as suffering from affective psychosis in a maniac state. Her illness did not get better after one and a half months treatment in the hospital. She is now still in hospital.
