On the afternoon of 5th June 1999, Xu Yiwen, a 16-year-old girl studying in the Second Middle School of Linjiang City in Jilin Province, said to her classmates, "The humankind is going to be destroyed and the earth will explode as well." In order to "have a feeling of the dooms day", she bought a bottle of sleeping pills and give them to more than 10 classmates. She gave 2-3 pills to each one and asked them to take them as she did. A girl name Du Yinjiao was very curious and asked 25 pills from her and took them all.
The teacher found that some students wanted to drink water, some slept on desk and some vomited in class, and reported to the headmaster in time. The girl taking 25 pills was sent to the Linjiang Municipal Hospital for emergency treatment. She was discharged 2 days later for timely treatment. The other classmates did not have serious consequences for small dosage.
Xu began to practice Falun Gong in June 1998 with the influence from her parents. After Xu entered the middle school, she became addicted to Falun Gong and was not interested in study. Her academic performance was drastically dropped. The school teachers and her relatives all talked to her parents, asking them to urge Xu to focus on study. But Xu's parents said, "It is no use to study. She's Ok to practice Falun Gong at home." After persistent persuasion, Xu reluctantly returned school but still did not set her mind on study. She often publicized Falun Gong in class and affected some classmates in different degree.
