A family tragedy occurred when a young man became deranged after practicing Falun Gong, and beat his father to death.
The 36-year-old Wang Anshou was a worker at the Taishan Machinery Factory, Xintai City, Shandong Province. He began practicing Falun Gong in January 1998. After three months of practice, he was no longer the filial son he had been. He considered his father the "tiger spirit" and his wife the "fox spirit." Both opposed his practicing Falun Gong.
His elder brother Wang Anzhen said, "After the Spring Festival in 1998, my brother-in-law gave a book on Falun Gong to my younger brother. After he started to practice Falun Gong, my younger brother no longer took care of the family and refused to take medicine or have an injection when he was ill."
The tragedy happened early in the morning of April 8, 1998. While Wang Anshou was practicing Falun Gong, his father tried to stop him and asked him to go and work in the field. Wang flew into a rage and battered his father with a carrying pole and spade over a hundred times until the poor old man lying dead on the ground.
Wang Anshou was diagnosed as suffering from serious schizophrenia, and was sent to a mental health center for treatment, where he remains to this day.
