Wang Sunzhong, 19, was a student at the Nongken Secondary School in Hainan Province. On June 28, 1999, Wang was admitted to hospital for schizophrenia, suffering from incontinence of the bowels and the bladder. He was even unable to look after himself.
Chen Liangxing, Director of the Dean's Office of the school, says, "When he was enrolled by our school in September 1993, he was an excellent student. In April 1996, Wang took part in the national mathematics competition for junior secondary school students and won a second prize. But since he started practicing Falun Gong at the end of 1996, he entered a state of mental confusion, neglecting his studies and staying away from classes, and simply wanted to follow Li Hongzhi. Finding his case very serious, we talked with him and tried to persuade him to focus his efforts on his studies and stop practicing Falun Gong. He simply turned a deaf ear."
After nearly a month's treatment in a hospital in Haikou, Wang Sunzhong's condition was brought under control. But he was still unable to go back to school.
