Kou Xihua, 21, was an employee of the Yellow River Administration in Jiyang County, Shandong Province.
In 1997, Kou Xihua contracted nephritis and received treatment in a hospital. When her illness was brought under control. She returned home. Later, someone introduced her to Falun Gong. She soon became obsessed with it. Turning a deaf ear to advice from the doctors and her family, she refused to take any medicine and persisted in practicing Falun Gong outdoors for five hours every day despite the biting cold wind. In April 1998 she had worn herself out and died of renal failure.
