Yang Chunxia, 39, is on the payroll of the Fifth Construction Company of Hubei Province.
In December 1994, Yang Chunxia began to practice Falun Gong. Aside from sleeping and going to work, she spent most of her time practicing Falun Gong, ignoring household work. She and her husband, who had never squabbled with each other through the 10 years of their marriage, began to quarrel fiercely. She bought 10 copies of Falun Gong books and a whole set of costumes and mattress for the practicing, in addition to three portraits of Li Hongzhi. She was convinced of Li Hongzhi's fallacy of "Doomsday is coming."
On July 15, 1997, she took 2,000 yuan from her savings and bought some watermelons and mineral water and distributed them to strangers on the street, thinking she was doing a good deed. Returning home at around 4 p.m., she locked herself in the bedroom. Thinking she had practiced Falun Gong for nearly two years and done so many good deeds, disciplining herself strictly with the virtues of "truthfulness, benevolence and tolerance", she believed the "wheel of law" in her stomach must be swirling swiftly and Master Li Hongzhi would take her to the world of Falun and turn her into an immortal. She read silently, "Dear daughter, I'm following my master to the Heaven and I'll come back to save you when I become an immortal." Then, she pushed open the window and jumped down from the third floor. She suffered a compressed fracture of the lumbar vertebra and will be paralyzed for the rest of her life.
