At the end of 1996, Chen Xinqing went to Zhengzhou to have a check-up for his osteoproliferation. Upon arriving at Zhengzhou he heard that Falun Gong could cure all diseases and some "warm-hearted" person offered him Falun Gong books. So he began practicing.
In mid-May this year, Chen contracted haemorrhagic fever, with a high fever that would not go away. At first he hid his illness from others and persisted in his Falun Gong practice. Two days later he could no longer hold up, and he fell down on his bed. His family asked him to see a doctor at the hospital, but he refused. By the time his family carried him to the county hospital by force, he had fallen into a coma. On this sickbed, whenever he regained consciousness, he would struggle to pull out the I. V., get off the bed and try to walk out of the ward. On May 26 he died due to delayed treatment and his refusal to co-operate with the physicians.
