In early 1999, Falun Gong practitioner Dong Ning (Male, age of 26) of Changhong Electrical Machinery Co., Ltd. of Weihai, Shandong Province, thought that he had practiced Falun Dafa to completeness and planned to "save himself and save others" by killing someone first and then himself.
The first victim he chose was Xiao Liu, a co-worker in the same workshop. On January 7, he hit Xiao Liu in the head with a die. Because he was too nervous, he missed and the victim escaped. In the next evening, eager to carry out his plan of "saving people", Dong lifted a kitchen knife and chopped at his father who was cooking. Fortunately, his father backed away in time and was not hurt. The second plan of Dong Ning was again lost. Losing control of himself in such emergency, Dong picked up a knife and broke into the kitchen of his neighbor, the 76-year-old retired cadre Jiang Wencai. He got hold of Jiang with the neck and stabbed. Hearing the cry for help, Jiang's son rushed out of the bedroom and tried to snatch the knife from Dong, getting several stabs in the waist and leg. Police arrived shortly and caught Dong Ning on the scene.
Talking about his motive of homicide, Dong said the idea in his mind at the time was that someone was telling him to take someone away, either relative or friend. As long as he could take one person away with him, he would reach completeness and save people.
