Wu Baoxia, who was born in October 1966, and once lived in Xuzhuang Village, Jingzhou Town, Jingxian County, Hebei Province, was crazy about Falun Gong heresy of going up to a higher level and Consummation, so that she committed suicide by drinking agricultural chemicals on October 17, 1999, at the young age of 33.
Wu once had a happy nuclear family. Her husband, Zhang Lijie and she farmed ten mu (a mu is a Chinese acre, or 666.7 square meters) land well. In addition, Zhang did part-time work in slack season, while she stayed at home to take care of her family and her child. In short, they lived a happy and rich life.
In June 1994, someone introduced Falun Gong to Wu, saying that practicing Falun Gong could cure disease without pill or injection, build body, eliminate karma and even realize Consummation. By such instigation, she started to practice Falun Gong. After two months regular practice, her anhypnia was not so bad as before and she owed it to Falun Gong and addicted herself to it gradually.
To elevate a higher level and be in heaven as soon as possible, Wu bought Li Hongzhi’s book Zhuan Falun and tapes. She devoted herself to Falun Gong by reading, reciting and writing Zhuan Falun, listening to Li Hongzhi’s tapes every day, regardless of her housework and farm-work. Her husband, Zhang was very dissatisfied with her and tried to persuade her to give up Falun Gong heresy and live a normal life painstakingly, but failed. Instead, she said, “I practice Falun Gong and all of you will benefit it. I will bring you to heaven together and enjoy a wonderful life.” Zhang was shocked and angry but could not find any other way to help his poor wife.
In early 1998, Zhang found Wu bemazed, nervous and insane. What’s more, she said little and contacted few relatives. Even someone told to her, she just lowered her head in silence. Zhang wanted to take her to hospital for the sake of her health, but she refused, “Once ill, the person takes medicine or seeks various kinds of treatments, which in effect press the sickness back into the body again. Falun Gong practitioners are being protected by the Master and can stay far away from disease. It’s beyond you common people. And I will never go to hospital.”
Thus, Zhang and the families had no way but to force her to hospital and she was diagnosed as mental depression after a comprehensive examination and needed to stay in hospital and take medicine. But she insisted on her wrong idea so deeply that she left hospital, took no pill and kept on practicing Falun Gong, even under the condition that her family burned all related materials, such as Zhuan Falun, Li Hongzhi’s portrait and tapes.
Then in early 1999, Wu’s condition became much more abnormal, and she was always murmuring nonsense every day. For example, she said that her temmoku (God's Eyes) was open with the Master’s help so that she could see Falun hidden in one’s body and the whole golden universe. Sometimes, she pointed to the sky and said that she would go to heaven together with the Master.
Before the Mid-autumn Festival, she told to her family, “My Master will make me immortal on the Mid-autumn day.” Then after the Mid-autumn day, she told to her husband, “I can be immortal on the Double Ninth Festival.”
On the Double Ninth Festival Eve, namely October 17, 1999, Wu committed suicide by drinking agricultural chemicals when her husband and child were in deep sleep.
