Du Chuanli, born on December 24, 1975, Han nationality, and a junior middle school graduate, is a farmer in Jialai Village under Huangling township in Tunchang county of Hainan Province.
Du Chuanli began to practise Falun Gong on November 19, 1998 and became insane a month later. He came across Xiao Guiying, a woman who was on her way back from the fields at the irrigation works near Liangshi Village under Tunjiao Township in Tunchang County. Du Chuanli suddenly robbed her of her bushhook, and hacked forcefully on her head, causing grievous body harm of Xiao Guiying. The villagers found and report the case to the public security authorities and the police officers rushed to the site to rescue the injured woman and investigate on the spot.
On March 15, 1999, Du was sent to the mental hospital in state-owned Chenxing Farm for treatment of about two months by his family. Now, he has become normal and no longer practises Falun Gong.
