Zhuang Xiulan, who lived in Pukou District, Nanjing, used to have a happy family. In 1995 she contracted nephritis, and after treatment, her disease was brought under control. She left hospital in August 1996. Soon afterwards, someone introduced her to Falun Gong. After she started to practice Falun Gong, she refused to take medicines or receive any treatment. She said to her husband: "Li Hongzhi is protecting me, so I will not fall ill. I am not sick at all; it is just that Master Li is helping me to get rid of evils."
Zhuang Xiulan believed that Li Hongzhi would cure her disease, but the fact was that her nephritis became worse. She was taken back to hospital by her family members. The doctor diagnosed that she was suffering from serious uremia. While she was critically ill, she learned that the central authorities had banned Falun Gong, and got to know what went on behind the scenes of Falun Gong. She said: Li Hongzhi said that Falun Gong would cure my disease and help me get rid of evil from my body. I believed him. However, my health became worse. They told me that if I gave no thought to the pleasures of life, I would become an immortal; and as I could not give up the pleasures of life, so I had fallen seriously ill as a mortal."
Zhuang Xiulan, who practiced Falun Gong for three years, now has to live by relying on hemodialysis. Her husband and daughter hate Falun Gong bitterly, when they see Zhuang lying on bed helpless.
