Li Weidong, a 47-year-old farmer of Liaoyang City, Liaoning Province, began practicing Falun Gong last year. Deceived by Falun Gong, Li told his family on February 15, 1999 that the world was about to be destroyed. At noon that day he hanged himself, leaving behind his 89-year-old mother, his wife and two daughters.
Li Weidong's mother said, "I don't understand why he became so infatuated with that superstition. Before he took his own life, he told me that the sky would fall and the earth would cave in. We would have less than two hours to live. I could not stop him, and he ran away."
