On November 14, 2012, a "Dafa disciple" let out a cry of grief and anger: "Falun Gong is too cruel, I hate it so much!" This "Dafa disciple" was called Zhao Ling, 48 years old at that time. When she finally woke up to reality, her life was coming to an end.
Zhao Lingyuan was born in September 1964 in Huaidian Township, Shenqiu County, Henan Province. She was a former employee of Shenqiu County Agricultural Machinery Bureau, Henan Province. Being a positive, upright, and kind-hearted woman, she won high praise from her leaders and colleagues for her excellent professional ability. Unfortunately, she sank into the quagmire of the Falun Gong cult in 1996.
Like many other misguided "Dafa disciples", Zhao Ling initially practiced Falun Gong with the desire to eliminate diseases and keep fit. As Zhao Ling was suffering from bronchitis and other chronic illnesses all year round, she immediately joined the ranks of Falun Gong practitioners as soon as she heard them saying that practicing Falun Gong could cure all kinds of diseases. After becoming a Falun Gong believer, Zhao Ling gradually understood some of the so-called "Gong theory" and "Fa theory". She learned that "Master" had cleaned up the body of every "true disciple" and planted a "golden Falun" in his or her lower abdomen, and that at the same time, "Master's law bodies” would protect the “Dafa disciples” 24 hours a day.
Because of the psychological hint from “Master”, Zhao Ling felt after practicing Falun Gong for some time that it had produced a miraculous effect on her, with her physical discomfort alleviated slowly. She gradually got obsessed with “Master” and “Fa" both at work and after work, thinking that it would bring her benefits.
According to Li Wenming's recollection, Zhao Ling was very enthusiastic about her work and had a very good reputation in her unit before practicing Falun Gong. However, after becoming a Falun Gong practitioner, she lost her professional dedication, coming to work late and leaving early frequently. Besides, she often copied and read Master's scriptures during work hours. Not only did she study the “Fa” in her office, but she also persuaded her colleagues to study it with her. Although no one believed in her, her behavior of spreading the “Fa” in the office interfered with the normal work of others. Therefore, she was criticized by the leadership repeatedly. However, she didn’t accept the criticism, thinking she was "cultivating her mind" and "ascending to higher levels". Out of anger, she stayed away from work without reason, often for days at a time.
A leader once asked Li Wenming to go to Zhao Ling's home to see why she didn’t come to work. When Li Wenming arrived at Zhao Ling's home, he saw Zhao Ling practicing meditation on the floor, with a CD player playing a Falun Gong CD next to her. While talking to Zhao Ling, Li Wenming found she was coughing harder and panting more quickly than before, so he advised her to quit Falun Gong and go to the hospital for a physical checkup. Instead of following his advice, Zhao Ling talked to him about "karma elimination", saying that her illnesses were the sins of her past life, and that if she practiced cultivation sincerely, "Master" would help her "eliminate karma".
After that, Zhao Ling often asked for leave, partly because she became increasingly obsessed with practicing gong and studying the “Fa", and partly because her illness was getting worse and worse due to her long-term refusal of medical treatment. Even at this time, she still had no doubts about "Master" and "Dafa", saying it was one of the Master’s tests for a “Dafa disciple”. Besides, she conspired with other practitioners to go away from home to "clarify the truth" for the Falun Gong cult.
According to Wang Tianlai, Zhao Ling's neighbor, Zhao Ling used to a very diligent woman, keeping everything clean and tidy at home and outside. Since practicing Falun Gong, she no longer did housework, nor did she care about her child. Her husband was busy with his business, with no time to take care of his family. As a result, their family lived a chaotic life without regular meals. That’s why Zhao Ling's “cultivation” had been opposed by her husband.
One day in 2001, when Zhao Ling’s husband returned home after a busy day, he found that Zhao Ling was still practicing gong obsessively while their thin son was gnawing on dry instant noodles to satisfy his hunger. In a rage, he threw out the door all the scriptures and CDs used by Zhao Ling, which led to a fierce quarrel between the couple. From then on, there was no more peace in the family until the couple’s divorce.
However, the breakup of her marriage did not make Zhao Ling wake up to her error. She still absurdly believed that this was one of Master’s tests for her, and that it would be easier for her to make “further advancement" and "ascend to higher levels" after her divorce. With “further advancement in her "cultivation", the harm brought to her by "Master" Li Hongzhi continued to increase. Years later, Ms. Wang shed tears of regret when she talked about the tragedy caused by Falun Gong to Zhao Ling's only son.
Ms. Wang was a teacher of Zhao Ling's son. One morning in April 2003, Ms. Wang found that Zhao Ling's son had been absent from school for several consecutive days, so she went to Zhao Ling's home to learn why her son had been absent from school. When she entered Zhao Ling’s house, she found Zhao Ling's son had Falun Gong "amulets" hanging all over his body, while Zhao Ling and a fellow practitioner were “sending out Gong” for him by gesticulating with hands and feet and chanting something unknown.
After a closer look at Zhao Ling's son, Ms. Wang felt something was wrong with him. She went up to touch the child's forehead only to find that the child was running a high fever.
Ms. Wang immediately advised Zhao Ling to take her child to the hospital for treatment. Zhao Ling refused to follow Ms. Wang’s advice, saying that her child's fever was caused by "karma" from his previous life and that only by driving the "karma" away from his body could he be kept safe and sound. Seeing that Zhao Ling was so obsessed with the heresies of Falun Gong, Ms. Wang immediately sent her child to a hospital in the county. The child's life was saved, but he was left with sequelae of encephalitis due to the delay in treatment. Until now, the child was still suffering from mild dementia. Ms. Wang sighed, "It’s a pity that such a good child has been harmed by Falun Gong in this way!"
The “law bodies” of "Master” didn’t protect Zhao Ling, but instead, they pushed her into the abyss of death step by step. According to Zhao Ying, Zhao Ling's younger sister, Zhao Ling's condition gradually deteriorated because she had been obsessed with "eliminating karma" and "achieving consummation", refusing to follow the advice of her leaders, friends and relatives to seek medical treatment for her illness. Furthermore, she stuck to the idea that “practicing Falun Gong is to seek one’s own blessings,” and he waited for "Master" Li Hongzhi to help her “eliminate karma and dispel illness.”
One day in July 2012, when Zhao Ying went to visit her nephew with dementia at Zhao Ling’s home, she saw Zhao Ling lying in bed in pain, breathing heavily, coughing violently, and spitting out sputum with blood in it. Nevertheless, Zhao Ling still said foolishly, "I am a Dafa disciple protected by Master's law bodies. I will be fine." Zhao Ying felt both anxious and angry. She asked the neighbors for help and sent Zhao Ling forcibly to a hospital. After a checkup, Zhao Ling was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer.
At the last moment of her life, Zhao Ling came to realize her error. She took her mother's hand, saying, "Mom, I was wrong. It’s Falun Gong that has harmed me to such extent!" With that, her face was full of tears of remorse.
