Belated remorse

Gao Kui (a pseudonym), a male, born in November 1966, lived in Dongxing Street, Hunjiang District, Baishan City, Jilin Province. He was an outgoing, helpful, and kind-hearted man. After graduating from an electric power school in the province, he was assigned to work in a provincial local power enterprise and became a technical backbone of his unit. His wife worked in the same company, and the two of them had a clever and sensitive daughter. The three together lived in harmony and happiness, with a family income higher than the local average, attracting the envy of relatives and friends.

However,“A storm may arise out of a clear sky.”During a physical examination organized by the company, Gao Kui was diagnosed with hepatitis. After the doctor’s prescription and treatment, his condition was improved, but Gao Kui was still unhappy and often worried about his health, hoping to find a perfect cure and could recover as soon as possible.

In the spring of 1998, one of his colleagues gave him a carefully packaged book and asked him to read it carefully at home. He also claimed that practicing Falun Gong could not only "eliminate karma and illnesses”, but also help to "increase Gong power", "get into a higher level," and even "ascend to heaven”. These statements made Gao Kui feel so novel that he became greatly interested.

After a period of practice, the seductive propaganda of Falun Gong, such as "Consummation", "elimination of karma", " Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance", and "being a good person," etc. which the cult relied on to deceive people, quickly occupied Gao Kui's mind and infiltrated his life. Gao Kui seemed to have found a feeling of transcendence and became indifferent to everything else in life.

Due to regular living habits, Mr. Gao’s original symptoms such as indigestion, nausea and vomiting, bloating, pain and liver discomfort had been alleviated. Gao Kui attributed it all to the result of practicing Falun Gong, and became even more obsessed with it.

Gao Kui was originally a technical expert in his unit. After studying and practicing Falun Gong, he became whole-heartedly devoted to cultivation. He began to deal with the work in a perfunctory way, and no longer treated it seriously. He also made mistakes during working, and when his leaders spoke to him, he just ignored them, or even believed they were interfering with his "cultivation". Thus, he had a strong aversion to his leaders and colleagues, obstinately going on his own way. At the same time, he even asked his wife to practice Falun Gong with him, saying that in the future, they would "successfully ascend to heaven" together, but his wife was not interested in it.

In 1998, a huge flood swept the Yangtze River, Nenjiang River, Songhua River and other river basins. People were doing charity, but Gao Kui didn't give a penny because his "master" Li Hongzhi once said that in places with great disasters, the "karma" must also be great, implying that people should not offer to help the disaster areas. Since they were all "Dafa disciples", they must obey orders of the "master". While everyone was engaged in donations and charity, he made up an excuse to stay out of sight.

However, he was torn by conflicting thoughts about the incident for a long time. He lost interest in his work and career completely because he remembered what his "master" said, "Being persistent in cultivation without any mistakes, and enjoying happiness after long suffering is a true blessing." Since “thinking anything else was creating karma", the only thing he chose to do was "learning Dafa and practicing Gong" every day. In the past, he showed selfless devotion to duty, and strived for excellence in everything at work. But now, he would only shrink back when facing problems or difficulties. And he didn't know whether it was right or wrong.

In July 1999, the government banned "Falun Gong" according to law, and Gao Kui was punished for stirring up troubles in Beijing. His colleagues tried their best to change his mind. Yet, he remained stubbornly unchanged.

As Li Hongzhi urgently demanded believers to go out "practicing Gong", "studying the Fa," and "telling the truth”, the illegal or troublemaking activities of Falun Gong followers also became increasingly rampant.

Gao Kui did not hesitate to join the illegal activity of "telling the truth" so as to "increase Gong powers", "go up to a higher level", and "ascend to heaven" as soon as possible. He submitted an application to the unit to quit job, but from the perspective of education and rescue, his company did not approve it. From then on, he began to slack off work, doing things by fits and starts. Faced with the advice of family members and relatives, he remained unmoved, stubbornly holding onto his own views on the grounds of "letting go of attachment" and "getting rid of human sentiment and desire", resulting in a tense family relationship.

During this period, Gao Kui's liver disease waxed and waned. He often felt nausea, vomiting, bloating, and diarrhea. But he was obsessed with the idea of "eliminating karma to cure disease," and pinned all his hopes for recovery on "Falun Dafa", refusing to seek medical help.

In the autumn of 2010, Gao Kui's health condition worsened, with persistent fever, acute abdominal pain, abnormal stools, and obvious swelling of the lower limbs. His family forcibly sent him to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with cirrhosis and ascites from previous hepatitis. The doctor said, if given injections and medication on time, hepatitis could actually be controlled or even cured. Although it had deteriorated, as long as the patient was treated according to the doctor's instructions, Gao’s condition could be controlled.

At this moment, fellow practitioners who came to visit him blamed him, "You are practicing to eliminate karma, and the Master will help you pass the test. Here and now, you are hospitalized and even received infusion. If you can't stand an easy test like this, then what kind of Dafa disciple are you?" On hearing these words, Gao Kui immediately sat up and was about to remove the needle. The nurse quickly stopped him, Gao Kui insisted, "I am a Dafa disciple. A Dafa disciple will never get sick, and I am eliminating the karma. I am not sick, and I need to be discharged!" The nurse strongly protested, "Your condition is very serious now, and you need to continue the medical treatment, otherwise your life will be in danger." Gao Kui insisted, "I’ve got the protection from my Master's law bodies, and I will be OK. As a Dafa disciple, taking the injection means I don't believe in the power of Falun Dafa. I must follow my Master’s words".

Upon hearing their conversation, the doctor on duty came out and joined in, “Listen, man, Falun Gong kills. There are many examples reported on TV and newspapers, people died for refusing medical treatment. You cannot follow their footsteps." Gao Kui protested, "They are all lies or rumors, deceitful and fake. The Master will only protect true cultivators ".

Since Gao Kui repeatedly rejected treatment and insisted on being discharged, the doctor had to instruct his wife to adhere to proper medication after the discharge. After returning home, his wife asked Gao Kui to take medicine as required, and he falsely promised to obey. But actually, he secretly spit the pills out or threw them away while his wife was not around. Under such circumstances, Gao Kui's condition gradually worsened. But the man persisted in his meditation, reciting Master’s "scriptures" over and over again, trying his best to be a devout Dafa disciple. He also prayed to Master Li for protection, vowed to go out “protecting Dafa,” and dreamed of reaching "Consummation" after "eliminating all his karmas".

As Gao Kui's condition worsened day by day, his relatives, friends and colleagues all came to visit him. Seeing that he was critically sick, they all advised him to be hospitalized, but Gao stubbornly drove them away. In the end, even cries and pleadings from his parents, wife and daughter, totally fell into the deaf ears.

In October 2010, Gao Kui was terminally ill and almost became breathless. He knew he was about to leave this world soon, and had a lot to say. He opened his mouth but didn’t have the strength to utter a word. His wife tightly held his hand, tears streaming down. Gao Kui slowly closed his eyes, two tears quietly slid down his bony cheeks.

Perhaps at that moment, Gao Kui finally realized that Falun Gong could not cure him, and Li Hongzhi was not eliminating his "karma", but only taking his life away.

Gao Kui's tears were full of guilt for his wife, daughter, and family, as well as his “attachment” to life. His bitter remorse was an accusation against the Falun Gong cult which caused harm and killed people, and at the same time, it was also a belated one.

Tragically, Gao Kui has become another victim of Falun Gong.
