Dong Yiying (pseudonym) was born in 1959 and lived in the West Coast New Area of Qingdao City, Shandong Province. She only had primary schooling, and died in a tragic car accident in November 2007. If it weren't for her obsession with Falun Gong, she wouldn't have met such an unfortunate end at the age of only 48.

Dong Yiying originally had a happy family. She and her husband were hardworking farmers, and at the age of 18, they had a son who had been intelligent and responsible ever since childhood. In 1994, their son was admitted to university. However, just as their life was getting better, Dong Yiying began practicing Falun Gong, leading her family into a deep crisis.

In early 1997, Dong Yiying was introduced to Falun Gong by her cousin, who told her that Falun Gong could not only improve one's health but also help people achieve “ascension and becoming immortals”. Driven by a desire for eternal life, Dong Yiying joined Falun Gong.

After practicing Falun Gong, Dong Yiying gradually became less diligent and dutiful as she used to be. According to her husband, Lao Wang, she used to prepare meals for him on time every day and waited for him to return home. However, after practicing Falun Gong, she not only stopped cooking on time but also frequently went to fellow practitioners' homes to “cultivate” together. Her husband advised her not to let her practice affect their daily life, but Dong Yiying resolutely refused. Furthermore, she was son angry about her husband’s words that she proposed a separation. Lao Wang, who was in his forties at the time, was pissed off by her unreasonable request, and he really moved to another room in a rage. Surprisingly, the move brought relief to Dong Yiying. Since that time, she not only stopped cooking for her husband but also didn't return home to sleep. Arguments between the couple became more frequent, and their relationship became increasingly strained.

For the sake of their son, Lao Wang didn't divorce her, but their marriage had long been in name only. Dong Yiying looked down upon her husband, who didn't practice Falun Gong, and considered him an “ordinary person”. She paid little attention to her husband's words.

When their son, Xiaowang, came home during a break from university and noticed his mother's unusual behavior, was surprised. After investigating the teachings of Falun Gong, specifically by reading the book “Zhuan Falun”, he found many absurd concepts in it such as “eliminating karma”, “achieving consummation”, and “protection of law bodies” etc. As a college student, Xiaowang realized that what his mother practiced was something of a cult nature, and urged her to stop. He warned his mother about the consequences if she continued. But Dong Yiying believed her son had misunderstood Falun Gong, and instead of giving up, she claimed to be a “chosen practitioner” and encouraged her son to join in as well.

In an attempt to persuade his mother, Xiaowang called his grandmother to their home, hoping she could help out. However, her grandmother's poor health prevented her from convincing Dong Yiying. To make things worse, Dong Yiying's stubbornness had made her grandmother fall ill. Faced with the persuasion of well-meaning people around her, Dong Yiying threatened, if anyone tried to stop her from practicing Falun Gong, she would sever ties with him.

Thus, Dong Yiying, who had been utterly captivated by Falun Gong, continued her practice, disregarding all warnings. In July 1999, the government banned Falun Gong according to law, she still refused to give up her cultivation. She believed the government misunderstood Falun Gong and, along with local practitioners, began distributing reactionary propaganda materials, trying to “clear” the name of Falun Gong.

Dong Yiying secretly left home to “promote the Fa” and “clarify the truth” day and night. On the evening of November 21, 2007, while she was out posting banners by the roadside, a large truck collided with her head-on, resulting in her immediate death.

As a devoted “Dafa” disciple, Dong Yiying gave up everything for Falun Gong but did not receive any protection that “Master” Li Hongzhi had promised. She tragically lost her life under the wheels of a truck, and her family fell into an abyss of misery.
