More than 20 years ago, a tragic incident happened in the Zhougong River. On the first day of the Lunar New Year in 1997, a villager named He Angui jumped into the river and had never been seen again. Since then, his son, He Weiming, would stand along the flowing river for a long time whenever he passed the bridge where his father jumped into the river.
He Angui was a native from Taiyuan Village, Nanjiao Township, Yucheng District, Ya'an City, Sichuan Province. Now, Taiyuan Village has been merged into Zhougongshan Township of Yucheng District. Zhougong River, which witnessed He Angui “reaching consummation”, flows just beside Taiyuan village.
Whether in the eyes of his son or the neighbors, He Angui was a kind and good father. There are four members in his family, including his son He Weiming, his daughter-in-law Wu Fang and his grandson. The family lived a happy and harmonious life, with bamboo growing being their major source of income.
However, since He Angui jumped into the river and drowned himself for seeking “consummation” as a Falun Gong believer, his son and daughter-in-law had always felt ashamed for him, reluctant to face the camera when interviewed. He Weiming said, "The death of my father came as a great blow to me and brought a lot of pressure to my family."
The incident happened in the summer of 1995. During that period, He Weiming took his father He Angui to the township health center for bladder stone surgery. As it was the busy farming season, He Weiming went home to harvest the crops after taking care of his father for a few days, leaving his father to stay alone at the township health center for further treatment. It was during that time that the specter of Falun Gong quietly descended on his father He Angui.
A man named Zhou Tong came to visit He Angui at the township health center regularly in that few days. Zhou Tong was a "Dafa disciple", who visited He Angui to draw him into joining Falun Gong followers in "spreading the Fa". However, He Angui was unaware of it at that time.
Zhou Tong told He Angui that the stones in his body were caused by "karma", that surgical resection wouldn’t work at all, and that instead, it would make the stones grow bigger and bigger. According to Zhou, as long as He Angui practiced Falun Gong, he would be protected by the Master’s “law bodies" and keep free from diseases, so there was no need for He Angui to waste money on medical treatment.
Being deceived by the heretical fallacies of Falun Gong, He Angui seemed to have a “Master" and a set of "Dafa" inserted in his mind, which made him “realize” that taking injections or medication was useless. Therefore, he sneaked out of the hospital and returned home without the medical staff knowing about it.
From then on, He Angui began to “practice cultivation” in a muddle-headed way. At 5:00 a.m. every morning, he would get up on time, bow to the book Zhuan Falun, kowtow to the portrait of “Master” Li Hongzhi, and practice five sets of Falun Gong exercises as instructed in “Master” Li Hongzhi’s sketch map for practicing gong.
He Angui was so absorbed in practicing gong and studying the “Fa" that he no longer did anything at home or in the fields, and nor did he pay any attention to his personal or family hygiene. His son and daughter-in-law were anxious about the changes in him and advised him repeatedly to take care of his health instead of being obsessed with “Master” and Dafa all day long. With his affection towards his family declining gradually, he even regarded his family members as obstacles to his "consummation", vowing to break off with them.
As recalled by Wu Fang, He Angui’s daughter-in-law, on He Angui’s 55th birthday, He Weiming and Wu Fang bought some food outside and came home happily together with their son, preparing to have a big celebration of He Angui’s birthday. When they walked into the yard of their house, their son shouted "Grandpa" repeatedly with great excitement. However, He Angui was practicing cultivation in front of the portrait of “Master” Li Hongzhi at that moment. He turned a deaf ear to his grandson’s shout, without even going out of the house to give a glance at his grandson. When cooking dinner, Wu Fang heard her son crying, and then she heard He Angui cursing her son. He Angui went so far as to say something like "I'll strangle you."
A day that should have been full of joy was thus spoiled by “Master” and "Dafa", resulting in the whole family becoming angry instead of happy. Later, as He Angui got increasingly obsessed with Falun Gong, it seemed all the more that his soul had been taken over by "Dafa", as he chattered all day long about "ascending to higher levels" and "achieving consummation." Meanwhile, He Angui felt more and more that he was about to "succeed in his cultivation" and that “Master” would soon come to fetch him.
Misfortune had come at last!
On the first day of the Lunar New Year in 1997, a neighbor surnamed Liu wanted to invite He Angui to eat dumplings at his home as in previous years. Just as Mr. Liu was entering He Angui's house, he saw He Angui walking out in a hurry. He Angui told Mr. Liu that the blessing had come to him: he was going to "reach consummation", and “Master” was to take him to the "heavenly world" today, as a "Dharma boat" was already parked in the Zhougong River waiting for him. He Angui also asked Mr. Liu to tell his son He Weiming that he would return to fetch them immediately as soon as he settled in the "Kingdom of Heaven".
According to Mr. Liu, He Angui ran like crazy to the river outside the village after saying those words. Mr. Liu shouted at him to stop while chasing him but failed to catch up with him as he ran faster and faster. Finally, Mr. Liu watched He Angui climbing over the bridge railings and plunging into the rolling Zhougong River.
The folks in the village came out in a hurry to search for him along and in the river but found no trace of He Angui.
It was a pity that He Angui was deceived in this way by “Master” Li Hongzhi into going to the "Kingdom of Heaven". The villagers all remembered that sad day when He Angui disappeared: the first day of the Lunar New Year in 1997! They said that they bore in mind that day not because it was easy to remember but because they had to remember it. It was a day when people should have been happy, but the Falun Gong cult, which advertises the so-called "truthfulness, compassion, and forbearance", deprived He Angui of his life.
