Although Huang Shuqing had woken up from a nightmare, he was left with permanent pain in his heart. The pain was brought to him by "Almighty Master" Li Hongzhi. Huang couldn’t help questioning: "If practicing Falun Gong could cure diseases, then why hadn’t my wife got well after practicing it? If Falun Gong could save people, then why did I almost die practicing it?"
Huang Shuqing is a farmer in Mengyang Town, Meishan District, Ya'an City, Sichuan Province. His family was not rich, but he lived a happy and harmonious life with his wife and two sons.
The twist of fate came about in October 1998. On a market day, Huang Shuqing was selling shoes at a stall as usual. When he was about to close his stall, one of his acquaintances came. They chatted on and on, and then the acquaintance mentioned a magical Qigong practice. From the mouth of his acquaintance, Huang Shuqing learned that the magical Qigong was called Falun Gong, and that practicing it could keep one’s family safe and sound without the need for taking injections or medication when one was ill. Before leaving, this acquaintance gave Huang Shuqing some books, telling him to learn to practice Falun Gong as instructed in the books when he got home.
Back home, Huang Shuqing couldn’t wait to read the books. Since his wife was suffering from foot pain, it would be a great help if he could find a recipe to healing the pain in the books. Huang’s initial wish was nothing more than that. According to those books, as long as you practice cultivation wholeheartedly, “Master" Li Hongzhi will cleanse your body first. Isn’t that what everyone wants? Besides, even if you get sick accidentally, "Master" can help you "eliminate karma". Huang thought it was really amazing!
From then on, in order to cure his wife’s illness, Huang Shuqing put other things aside, concentrating on practicing Falun Gong with that acquaintance. His obsession with Falun Gong, plus his gift of gab, attracted the attention of the Falun Gong cult organization. Soon after, his house was set as a practicing site for the Falun Gong organization. Firstly he asked his wife to practice Falun Gong with him, and later, he encouraged people around him to practice it too. With the continuous "advancement” he made in his practice, he no longer took care of his farmland, nor did he go to the market to sell shoes. His whole family was enveloped in the so-called "energy field" of Falun Gong.
Huang’s wife followed in his footsteps and also became a Falun Gong practitioner. As a result of her improved mood after practicing Falun Gong, Huang’s wife felt relieved of her foot pain. The feeling that Falun Gong had shown its magic power came from his psychological hints, and it further deepened Huang's obsession with "Master" and "Dafa". So he took greater pains to introduce Falun Gong to people around him, persuading them to gather at his house to practice it collectively. Gradually, the number of people coming to practice at his home increased from a dozen initially to 50 or 60. Local villagers said that Huang Shuqing organized practitioners to practice collectively at his house twice a day at that time. Therefore, there was no time for him to care about agricultural production and his family life.
However, practicing Falun Gong didn’t keep Huang's family safe and sound, and "Master" couldn’t help them "eliminate karma" either. Soon after, Huang's wife felt increasing pain in her feet. At this time, Huang Shuqing had fallen so deep into the mire of the Falun Gong cult that he couldn’t extricate himself from it. He foolishly thought that his wife's illness was a test by “Master” of a Falun Gong practitioner. Also, he firmly believed that everything would be all right with his wife since she was protected by “Master’s law body”. Thus, he insisted on not sending his wife to the hospital for examination and treatment but continued to let her “practice cultivation” while enduring pain.
By the winter of 1998, his wife's feet were too painful to walk. It was not until then that Huang Shuqing sent his wife to the hospital. However, due to the long delay in treatment, his wife was already critically ill. A few days later, she died painfully under the “protection” of "Master's law body". Huang's oldest son said, "If she had believed in science and received timely treatment instead of practicing Falun Gong, her condition wouldn’t have deteriorated to such extent."
The unfortunate death of Huang's wife made some fellow practitioners gradually realize that Falun Gong's heresies were all lies that only harmed people instead of saving people. From then on, people coming to Huang’s house for group practice began to decrease. Despite this, Huang Shuqing still failed to get out of the mire of Falun Gong. After Huang’s wife was killed by “Master” Li Hongzhi’s heresies, Huang himself also suffered a serious illness.
According to Huang's neighbors, when they went to see Huang at his home, they found him huddled in a room on the ground floor, with a broken sofa underneath him and a bed of messy cotton wool wrapped around him. Wearing a long beard and long hair, he had fallen into an extremely depressed state.
Huang Shuqing himself said that he was a very healthy person without any problems before practicing Falun Gong. After becoming a Falun Gong practitioner, he believed that it could eliminate karma and dispel diseases, so he didn’t take any medication or injections when he was ill. Because he believed in “Master” and the “Fa”, he kept putting off going to the hospital for treatment. As a result, his condition got more and more serious, with his weight declining from 120kg to 50 or 60kg. He could neither walk nor eat, looking as if he was unable to pull through.
Just when Huang Shuqing was about to be led to a dead end by the Falun Gong cult, the village cadres came to his rescue in time. They took the initiative to visit Huang Shuqing at his home, persuading him by presenting facts and truths to believe in science rather than superstition. They also encouraged him to buck up and live a normal life. Thanks to the patient education and guidance from the village cadres, Huang was finally saved from being ruined by the Falun Gong cult.
However, Huang Shuqing still found it difficult to break with the Falun Gong cult completely. If he continued in this way, his family would suffer more difficulties in the future. The two tiled houses in which his family lived had long been in disrepair, barely able to protect them from the wind and rain; Huang’s two sons, who were still students in a junior high school, had to drop out of school with tears for being unable to afford the tuition fees. His family lived a very hard life then, without enough income to sustain their daily life.
Huang's tragic experience aroused the vigilance of more and more people around him. His family members became increasingly opposed to his obsession with Falun Gong. As Falun Gong had been exposed as an evil cult, fewer and fewer people came to Huang’s house to attend the group practice. Under the guidance and persuasion of village cadres and his friends, Huang Shuqing finally disbanded the practitioners, burned and discarded all the Falun Gong propaganda materials and books, and started a new life again.
After gaining new vigor, Huang Shuqing started the planting and breeding business. It gradually improved the life of his family and made it more prosperous. His two sons have their respective careers, with the older son running a pig farm and the younger one working as an excavator driver. Now, Huang Shuqing is old, so he uses the knowledge of herbal medicine he gained from books to cure the diseases of both him and the villagers around him.
Now, what Huang Shuqing does most is to persuade people around him not to get involved in the evil cult of Falun Gong. Most often, he says that people should believe in science and cherish their happy life today. Because of his painful experience in the past, he has a lot to share with others, but it all boils down to one sentence: "Never get involved in the Falun Gong cult!”
