"August 17 was Chen Juping's birthday. When she was alive, we carefully prepared a birthday party for her at our home filled with happiness. Now our home is cold and quiet, and my heart is heavy at this time every year. I miss my wife, but I hate Falun Gong. If I had been more determined in forcing her to quit Falun Gong earlier, she wouldn't have died at such a young age," Liu Zhangming, a 60-year-old man from Wuhan, Hubei Province, told me about the wicked conduct of Falun Gong harming people’s lives.
A technical expert got addicted to Falun Gong to cure her illness
"My wife, Chen Juping, used to be a hard-working woman. She knew that she had to work hard to stand out since she had only junior high school education. Therefore, she worked her way up to being a technical expert. At that time, I thought my wife was really something." Liu Zhangming was full of happiness and pride when talking about his wife. He said that Chen Juping was born in 1962. After graduation from junior high school, she joined a factory, learning skills from the older-generation workers step by step. She did any work assigned to her, no matter how hard it was. Finally, she became a technical expert in the factory.
Perhaps because of overwork, Chen Juping felt physically sick in the year when she was 28. Then she went to hospital for a checkup and learned that she was suffering from gynecological diseases. "She had a heavy burden on his mind, always feeling it was a shameful disease. Therefore, she insisted on going to work while receiving treatment," said Liu Zhangming. Chen Juping took medicine every day, and after doing so for six months, she found her condition had improved.
In January 1999, one of Chen’s workmates visited her at her home and advised her to practice qigong when seeing her medicine. "The workmate told Chen that she fell ill because her karma hadn’t been eliminated, and that if she practiced gong "Master” would help her cure her illness and both she and her whole family would be protected by Master's Law Bodies. The workmate also claimed that she had cured her own gynecological disease previously by practicing gong. However, we had never heard that practicing qigong could cure diseases, so we didn’t take the workmate’s words seriously." Liu Zhangming said that the workmate also left two books with Chen Juping, asking her to read them when she was free.
I thought this was just a small episode in life, but beyond my expectation, it led Chen Juping onto the road of destruction. As a conscientious person, Chen Juping kept recalling what the workmate had told her and tried hard to read the books given to her by the workmate, which gradually led her astray to the wrong path of the Falun Gong cult. She was instilled with such heresies as that "sickness is caused by karma" and "practitioners don’t get sick" and thus “need no treatment by an ordinary person.” These heretical ideas made Chen Juping feel more relaxed than ever.
"As soon as the Falun Gong music was played, she would kneel down on the ground and utter scriptures, ready to start practicing gong." Liu Zhangming recalled that after practicing Falun Gong for some time, Chen Juping felt physically better and she admired Falun Gong to the core. At first, Chen Juping practiced in the morning and evening, going to work as usual during the day. Slowly, she began to practice in the middle of the night, saying that Master wanted to test her. Later, she took time off from work and practiced at home regularly.
Liu Zhangming said that he often sighed at home alone. Seeing his wife turning from a dedicated and hard-working technical expert into a Falun Gong addict who practiced all day long and ignored her work, he began to persuade her to give up Falun Gong, believe in science, and work hard. However, his wife refuted him with the heresies of Falun Gong, not listening to his advice at all.
Refusing treatment caused her minor disease to develop into a terminal one
Chen Juping got up at 4:00 a.m. every morning to practice at the practicing site. She returned home at 7:00 a.m. for breakfast and then went on to practice at home after breakfast. She went to practice at a fellow practitioner’s home in the afternoon and evening. Besides, she copied the book Zhuan Falun by hand and kept a diary of her daily practice. With her increasing obsession with Falun Gong, Chen gradually believed that “real practitioners had no diseases.” Consequently, she began to ignore the doctor's advice on controlling her disease through medication.
Finding that Chen Juping had thrown away all the medicines prescribed by the doctor and stopped going for a regular checkup, her relatives and friends advised her to go to hospital for a checkup. However, Chen Juping refused to follow their advice, saying, "I feel much better than ever before. This is the result of practicing Falun Gong."
However, Liu Zhangming heard his wife often say she had a stomachache, which was so serious sometimes that she was sweating and rolling in bed. Seeing that his wife got so sick but still refused obstinately to listen to reason, Liu Zhangming tried repeatedly to force her to go to hospital for treatment, but she always refused to comply with him. "I kindly asked her to see a doctor, but she said I was trying to harm her and add to her trouble. She said her stomachache was a test for her by “Master” and that she had to withstand the test. Master taught her that she mustn’t take medicine and that taking medicine would accumulate her karma and prevent her from ascending to higher levels," Liu Zhangming said, shaking his head helplessly.
Due to her refusal of medical treatment, Chen’s body got thinner and thinner, and her health went from bad to worse. Her family was very worried about her health but could do nothing about it. Chen often broke out into quarrels with her husband and said, "I’m passing through a barrier. Hold on and I will succeed and be free from any disease." Chen Juping would always comfort herself by saying so when she had an attack of pain. She ignored the advice of her family, insisting on not going to hospital for treatment. She didn’t know that practicing Falun Gong hadn’t played any role in treating her disease. On the contrary, the God of death was approaching him. On the 12th day of the 12th lunar month of 2000, Chen Juping was forced by her family and relatives to go to hospital and was diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer.
It was too late to repent when she finally came to realize the truth
"Whenever she was in unbearable pain, she would cry, 'Master, come and save me!’ It hurt me so much to hear her crying." Liu Zhangming held back his grief, but the corners of his mouth kept twitching when he talked about the sufferings his wife endured because of Falun Gong.
With the aggravation of her condition, Chen Juping had increasing difficulty in moving around. She could no longer go to the practicing site, so she practiced and meditated at home. Every morning, she lit incense sticks and kneeled in front of the “Buddha picture” of Li Hongzhi to worship him, begging "Master" Li Hongzhi to bless her to rise to a higher level, transcend the ordinary people, and ascend to heaven in the future.
At first, Chen’s family kept her condition under wraps for fear of making her feel upset, but later, as she still refused to go to hospital, they told her the truth about her suffering from cancer. After waking up to reality, Chen Juping slowly understood that “Master” hadn't cured her disease but caused it to worsen into an incurable one.
Chen Juping began to reflect on her past, feeling regret for what she had done over the years. She often took her husband around where she used to work, remembering what a proactive and motivated worker she once was. From time to time, she would cry alone under the quilt in the middle of the night. She tore up, page by page, the Falun Gong books and picture albums that she once regarded as treasures. Also, she told everyone who came to visit her not to believe in Falun Gong, saying it was an evil cult that murdered people for their money.
"She really recognized the true nature of Falun Gong, but unfortunately, it was too late for her to repent." Liu Zhangming still remembered that his wife took his hand on her deathbed and apologized to him, expressing the regret that she hadn’t followed her family's advice to quit Falun Gong earlier and thus harmed both herself and her family.
