Initially, Wei Changling was suffering from only a common gynecological disease called uterine adnexitis. However, untimely discovery and treatment brought severe consequences to Wei Changling's health: serious erosion of and abscess in uterine adnexal tissues combined with a large amount of hydrops in the abdominal cavity. In the end, she had to take surgery, which lasted 8 whole hours. All this was the bitter fruit of her obsession with practicing Falun Gong.
Wei Changling, who lives in Yuancheng District, Heyuan City, Guangdong Province, got involved with Falun Gong in late June 1997. One day, she went to Chashan Park for morning exercise and found a group of people practicing Falun Gong. An old woman came up to “spread the Fa” to her, telling her that Falun Gong was a good practice that could keep people fit without taking any injections or medication when they were sick. Suffering from stomach problems since childhood, coupled with migraines and insomnia, Wei Changling decided to have a try at Falun Gong to see if it would work.
As Wei Changling concentrated on practicing Falun Gong, she no longer cared about the housework and life of her family. On the one hand, practicing gong and studying the "Fa" took up a lot of her time. On the other hand, as Wei Changling had been brainwashed by the heresies of the Falun Gong cult, her mind was full of absurd ideas such as "ascending to higher levels" and "reaching consummation". Also, her mind and actions fell under the complete control of Falun Gong. "Master" said that practicing Falun Gong was mainly to “cultivate yourself" and that “if you couldn’t let go of your family affection, you couldn’t cultivate at all.” Therefore, Wei Changling cared less and less about her family.
One night, Wei’s mother-in-law came and told Wei that her child was sick with a high fever of 38 degrees, but Wei Changling was not worried about it at all after hearing about it, as "Master" Li Hongzhi had said that one person practicing benefits the whole family. She even felt a little complacent, as she absurdly thought that her child’s illness would help her "eliminate karma", which was a rare good thing to make her "go to the next level" faster. Early next morning, she went out in a hurry to attend the “Fa-study” activities of Falun Gong instead of taking her child to see a doctor. By noon, her husband came home from outside and immediately took their child to the hospital for treatment. The child's high fever subsided after taking injections.
That evening, when Wei Changling came home, her husband blamed her by saying, “How can you be a mother if you don't care about your child who is suffering such a severe fever?” Wei Changling thought she was practicing gong for the good of her whole family, so she was naturally unsatisfied with her husband blaming her, and she quarreled with him. Later, Wei Changling got more obsessed with practicing gong and studying the “Fa”, which resulted in frequent quarrels between her husband and her. After each quarrel, the couple would treat each other silently for a long time, which caused them to become increasingly indifferent to each other.
To get Wei Changling out of the shadow of the Falun Gong cult and let her return to normal life, Wei’s husband tried every possible way, but to no avail. Soon, Wei Changling divorced her husband, becoming a woman with no family or family affection.
After the divorce, Wei Changling worshiped “Master” Li Hongzhi more blindly and got more obsessed with "Dafa". She regarded her divorce as a sign that she had "ascended to a high level", thinking it was an "advancement" that "true cultivation disciples" should make as required by “Master”. Also, she felt she had now got rid of the constraints that "normal human feelings" had, and she was glad that she went one more step closer to "achieving consummation".
As Wei Changling had refused medical treatment for a long time, her abdominal pain attacks occurred more frequently and became increasingly severe. However, every time she had a pain attack, she would place her hope on the “Law Body” of "Master", believing that "Master" was eliminating her karma, cleansing her body, and helping her ascend to high levels. Therefore, even when she was doubled over with pain, sweating profusely, and rolling in bed, she insisted on not going to the hospital. Sometimes she drank water to relieve the pain, and sometimes she didn't even drink water.
While her health gradually weakened, Wei Changling became more obsessed with "Master" and "Dafa". According to her recollection, on May 12, 2009, which coincided with her physiological period, she had a severe abdominal pain attack again. Previously, her abdominal pain attack always occurred during her physiological period, and she had been able to endure it each time. Therefore, it made her an increasingly obsessive believer in Falun Gong's heretical fallacies about "Law Body" and "karma elimination”. However, this time was different from the past, as her pain lasted for three consecutive days without ever subsiding. In order to relieve the pain, Wei Changling sometimes lay in bed for a while, and at other times, she just pressed her abdomen and walked back and forth in the house or yard. Even when she was so sick, she still believed she would get well by herself with the protection of Master’s Law Body.
Finally, Wei’s family couldn’t stand it anymore. They forcibly sent her to the hospital despite her strong opposition. After a check-up, she was confirmed as suffering from severe erosion of uterine adnexal tissues coupled with ovarian necrosis on one side. The doctor said Wei Changling had to receive surgery to remove the necrotic area since her disease hadn't been found and treated in time.
After the surgery, Wei Changling started a new life. An obvious sign of that is she has abandoned Falun Gong with the patient help of anti-evil-cult volunteers. She no longer believes in such heresies as "karma elimination" and "Law Body", but faces life with a sunny attitude and takes a scientific approach to disease.
