Recently, the Politics and Law Committee in Liunan District, Liuzhou, Guangxi Province received a special silk banner with words “Deprogramming teachers warm people’s hearts with sincerity, and policemen take on responsibilities to enforce laws for the people”. It was only written in a few words, but it showed the gratitude of Wang Gang (a pseudonym) who presented the banner.
Wang Gang, 57 years old this year, is beaming and buoyant in spirits. And his plump and handsome face makes him look like a young man in his 30s. But who would’ve thought that in the past, as a cult addict falling into crutches of “Falun Gong” by mistake, he was emaciated and haggard, daydreaming about achieving “Perfection” all day long.
One day in 2016, Wang Gang had nothing to do so he surfed the Internet to check updates on Weibo, and suddenly, he noticed that someone released a piece of software. Out of curiosity, Wang Gang ran the software and the website of the “Falun Gong” cult popped up on the homepage of his web browser. In this way, Wang Gang fell into the trap meticulously designed by the cult organization.
After browsing the “Falun Gong” website, Wang Gang felt as if he had opened a door to a whole new world, where he learned many hypocritical concepts advocated by the cult such as “cultivate your heart and mind to be a better person”, “be beneficial to cure diseases and keep fit”, “achieve Perfection in terms of merits and virtues”, etc., which bewitched him who had spiritual emptiness to fill and made him believe that he had found the real spiritual ballast and emotional anchor. Since then, he had been obsessed with “learning Dafa” and “practicing Falun Gong” by following his “Master Li” online.
Every day, he kept sitting in meditation regularly and “practiced” wholeheartedly. Neither did he go to work nor take care of his family. Seeing him acting abnormally like this, his wife was so sad but helpless to do anything about it. Each time she mentioned this subject to her husband, the couple would end up with a big fight quickly.
“Master Li urges followers to take to the streets to clarify the truth so as to eliminate Karma and achieve Perfection”. Wang Gang was so obsessed with his “Falun Gong” cultivation that he had unshaken faith in Li Hongzhi’s fallacies and went around chanting the cult slogan of “Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance”. In 2017, he made an illegal “Falun Gong” banner on his own and climbed a local hillside to hang it. Immediately, he got arrested by the police and was sentenced to eight months in prison for it.
However, this experience failed to make Wang Gang come to his sense. After being released from prison, he continued to practice “Falun Gong” furtively.
In 2020, Wang Gang suffered from infectious diseases but he was firmly convinced that he would get fully recovered without any medicine or injection as long as he kept practicing “Falun Gong” because he was under the blessing and protection of “Master Li”. Due to his refusal to any medicine and medical treatment, his condition deteriorated steadily. He couldn’t stop coughing and had difficulty in breathing.
After the outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic, “Falun Gong” took the opportunity to fabricate rumors and instigated followers to spread them, claiming that “there would be of great disaster for mankind and only those who learn Dafa could escape it by ascending to Heaven after achieving Perfection”. Incited by the oversea cult organization, and regardless of his poor health, Wang Gang frequently went out to post or distribute “Falun Gong” propaganda leaflets, for which he was arrested by police the second time.
After noticing Wang Gang was in poor health, the deprogramming teachers immediately took him to doctors for medical diagnosis and treatment. However, influenced by fallacies of “Falun Gong”, Wang Gong was strongly disinclined to cooperate with doctors on medical examinations and acted against doctors and deprogramming officers by sitting in meditation in the hospital every day. When inquired by doctors about his medical history and current situation, he chose to say nothing at all as a refusal. He even fought against doctors during the medical checkup. He kept waving his arms to fend off nurses who either bring medicines to him or came to give him injections.
“At that time, I lived in hope that ‘Master Li’ could help me eliminate Karma so that I could achieve ‘Perfection’ to ‘ascend to heaven’”. Wang Gang still kept sitting in meditation while coughing up blooding, and the scarlet blood didn’t make him budge an inch on his faith. Because of his consistent refusal to medicines and medical treatment, doctors issued critical illness notice several times.
For the reason that Wang Gang was profoundly influenced by the “Falun Gong” cult, the deprogrammer teachers had to try to have him go through medical treatment while freeing him from clutches of “Falun Gong” fallacies. Since Wang Gang suffered from infectious disease, the deprogramming teachers applied for special funds so as to transfer Wang Gang to a treatment institute with better conditions. Despite the risk of being infected, the deprogramming teachers painstakingly tried to dissuade Wang Gang from believing in cult in terms of laws, politics, society, life and other aspects. The deprogramming teachers clearly understood the importance of making Wang Gang realize on his own the evil nature of the “Falun Gong”. They deeply knew that only when Wang Gong saw through the deceptive veil of those “Falun Gong” lies, such as “no medicines needed while being ill” or “achieving Perfection to ascend to heaven” could he be fully willing to cooperate on the treatments for both his body and his mind.
As the saying goes, “Hard work pays off”. With the patient help from the deprogramming teachers, Wang Gang finally came to his sense, fully understood the nature of Falun Gong, and was determined to break away with the cult. He actively cooperated with doctors on the medical treatment, as a result of which his conditions gradually improved and he basically got recovered.
After breaking away from “Falun Gong”, Wang Gang started to live a positive life. Every time the deprogramming teachers went back to visit him, he always showed his gratitude by saying, “I mistakenly believed in the ‘Falun Gong’ cult, and thinking I would be subjected to cruel punishment and abuse, but you didn’t discriminate me at all. Instead, you helped me get cured and showed me the way to a new life, for that I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all of you…”
