"I am a person who loves life. At the beginning, I just wanted to get rid of illness, keep fit and live a happy life. And I really wanted to be a kind and helpful person to others. Unfortunately, I fell into the quagmire of Falun Gong cult". “Now I have seen with my own eyes that many Falun Gong addicts become extremely selfish and do not cherish their lives. In order to reach the so-called 'Consummation', they abandon their families, careers and do not care about feelings of their beloved ones, thus causing many family tragedies. I will resolutely break away with such a cult organization that harms life, destroys humanity and endangers the society”. This is what Yao Juan (a pseudonym) from Chengnan Street, Hunjiang District, Baishan City, Jilin Province, said from the bottom of her heart after recognizing the essential characteristics of Falun Gong cult.

Yao Juan, 63 years old, has a husband, mother and daughter in her family. She is really not a rich woman in the city. However, with an industrious husband, a kind mother and a filial daughter, Yao’s family is full of warmth and harmony. But unfortunately, since Yao practices Falun Gong, everything in her family has changed.

Yao mistakenly joined Falun Gong for “curing disease”

Before 2008, Yao Juan suffered from several chronic diseases such as cervical spondylosis, intractable headache, heart attack, and enlarged tonsils, etc. Among these troubles, cervical spondylosis made her depressed all day long and, sometimes she was too scared to sleep because of her enlarged tonsils. She was afraid that she might die during the sleeping. Whenever she was thinking about her heart disease, all her hands and feet would twitch involuntarily. In a few occasions, her headache made her feel that life would be worse than death. To make things worse, injection or medicine didn't work much, so Yao found her life really miserable during that period.

One day, an old classmate told Yao that, if she practiced Falun Gong, she could cure her illness without spending a penny. At that time, Yao Juan already knew that Falun Gong was a cult and had been outlawed, and when she saw the self-immolation tragedy of Falun Gong members reported on television, she was very afraid, and refused to practice it many times. But her classmate kept saying that “I am doing it for your own health, Falun Gong teaches people to be kind, to become good people, how can the practitioners burn themselves?” “Those who set themselves on fire were not Falun Gong practitioners. They were paid by the government, to put on a show and to defame Falun Gong. The media is telling us fake news.” He also added that "Master" Li Hongzhi was the "Lord Buddha of the Universe," who had come to save human beings, and that after practicing Falun Gong, the practitioners would never have to endure any hardship, and could "stay young forever."

Surrender to classmate’s persistent preaching, plus terrible sufferings of her illness, Yao Juan decided to give it a try. And after a period of practice and meditation, she felt that her physical conditions had improved a little bit, so she began to believe firmly in Falun Gong and be very grateful to Li Hongzhi.

However, Yao Juan did not realize that the improvement of her condition was the result of regular daily life and the effect of psychological hints.

Obsession with "Falun Gong" caused mother’s illness and divorce with husband

In the following days, Yao Juan and other Falun Gong followers went around "protecting the Dharma," "practicing the Gong," and "clarifying the truth." They had already become muddle-headed and lawless all day long. Her mother, her husband, and her married daughter, as well as her son-in-law all came to stop her. Yao Juan, who had long been possessed by the cult, turned a deaf ear to them and even flew into a rage, believing that they were demons that hindered her "cultivation" and her "mind improvement" and, as the result, she could not get into "upper levels". Ever since then, the originally warm and harmonious family lost its peace. Yao’s mother, watching her own daughter indulge in Falun Gong all day and refuse to accept advice, became deeply grieved and fell ill many times, but Yao Juan still did not care. This made her family members very sad.

Firmly believing in Li Hongzhi's fallacy of "eliminating karma," "upgrading to higher levels," and "cultivating people never getting sick," Yao Juan had refused to take medicine or seek medical treatment for a long time. She suffered from headaches, dizziness, palpitations, dyspnea, blurred vision, and many other symptoms. Her family did their best to ask her to go to hospital for treatment, but she believed that’s Li Hongzhi helped her "eliminate black karma" and “clean up her body”, which was also a test for practitioners. And symptoms of her illness, were just external manifestation of "eliminating karma", and her body would soon turn better if she survived the “test”.

In order to save Yao Juan, her husband called some of her relatives and elders to sit together at a family meeting, asking her to quit Falun Gong, and there they made it clear that no one who believed in the cult could be a wife, mother, or grandmother in the family. At that time, Yao Juan's attitude was very firm, saying that "my cultivation of Dafa is unshakable". The elders present all shook heads and left in disappointment. Yao Juan's mother repeatedly said sorry to the elders who came to help, saying that they had already done their best. Seeing off relatives, mother and daughter all shed tears, crying bitterly on the spot.

When her husband asked for a divorce and dividing equally their family property, Yao Juan readily agreed, she had long wanted to leave the family and enter the “undisturbed” world of Falun Gong.

Government helped Yao come to her sense, she felt like getting a new life

Abandoned her husband and daughter, Yao Juan sent her mother to her daughter's home. She felt that she had at last got rid of the burden of "ordinary people", and she would soon “get into higher levels”. She decided to take this opportunity to practice well, and she was sure that she would achieve "positive results".

According to "Master" Li Hongzhi's request, all practitioners must do the "three things" well. Despite her illness and suffering, Yao Juan often went out to distribute Falun Gong propaganda materials, or madly chanting Falun Gong slogan, and carry out the so-called “truth clarification". In the autumn of 2015, Yao Juan was arrested by the police while distributing Falun Gong leaflets and was punished according to law.

In April 2016, Yao Juan was taken to the provincial women's supervision center. When she first entered the place of supervision, she refused to plead guilty and tried her best to fight back. Adhering to the concept of "curing disease and saving the people", the supervisors never abandoned Yao, tried their best to persuade her to take medicine to cure her disease, and patiently helped and educated her.

“Facts speak louder than words”. Through reading books, watching discs, plus inspiration and patient explanations of deprogramming personnel, Yao Juan gradually realized the extreme danger of Falun Gong. Under the instigation of Falun Gong cult, practitioners refused to take medicine, some of them died as the result; a numbers of practitioners killed their family members or relatives, and a few extremists carried out self-immolation to reach "consummation," causing family tragedies. Li Hongzhi kept saying that “spreading Dafa” was his destined duty, and "Truthfulness, Benevolence, and Forbearance" was intended to help his followers become kind people, and he would not take a penny from the practitioners. But in reality, “Master” Li resorted to all kinds of means to crazily accumulate his personal wealth. During the "April 5" incident, Li Hongzhi plotted to put pressure on the government, lead Falun Gong followers to the opposite side of the government, ignoring state laws and regulations, and trying in vain to put on a legal cloak for Falun Gong cult organization. The Incident disturbed social order, distorted image of the nation, and gave anti-China forces an opportunity to defame our country.

It was precisely because of the silent influence and patient education of the government workers that Yao Juan began to rethink the value of life and carefully examine her past.

"Falun Gong cult practices mind control, harms human life, and frantically confronts the government. It is extremely hostile to common people and the society. It (Falun Gong) is an out-and-out cult." In her diary, the waking-up Yao Juan wrote.

"I am really grateful to the government for educating and saving me, letting me know the extreme dangers of the cult, helping me recognize the essence and harm of Falun Gong". “Now I have finally walked out of the shadow of Falun Gong, and I will do my best to help those who are still obsessed with the cult, hoping that they can get out of the quagmire of cult as soon as possible. I also call on the people around the country, stay away from the cult, to be a good citizen who knows, understands, and abides by the national laws.” During the return visit of anti-cult volunteers, Yao Juan said so.

During this return visit, Yao Juan also told the anti-cult volunteers a piece of good news: After learning that she had left the Falun Gong cult organization, her husband, with the help of their daughter, relatives and friends, had remarried her. Her husband also bought a new house, so that they can live a good life together in their old age.

Yao Juan rekindled her enthusiasm for life.
