On January 9, 2013, when I just reached the age of 60, my wife died of illness at home because she had been obsessed with “Falun Gong” for 18 years. And she had been fully convinced that “practicing Falun Gong” could help her dispel misfortunes and cure the disease. Now my daughter and I were shattered with the grief. And my 82-year-old mother-in-law cried out, “My silly child, it was the ‘Falun Gong’ that got you killed.”

In 1997, my wife Li Juan (a pseudonym) and I got married and lived in Lvshunkou District, Liaoning Province. The next year, we had a lovely daughter. At that time, I worked at the Lvshun Aquatic Products Company, while my wife took care of everything at home including household chores and child-raising. Together, we made our little family full of laughter and hope.

In 1995, hearsay had it that “practicing Falun Gong” could help to keep healthy, cure diseases and bring benefits to the whole family even if only one in the family practiced it. My wife believed such nonsense and took back home a book called Zhuan Falun (Turn the Dharma wheel). She kept reading the book for days. She even skipped her meals so that she could concentrate on studying it day and night. And soon she became obsessed with practicing “Falun Gong”. In her spare time, in order to achieve “further advancement” and “leveling-up”, my wife tried hard to draw people into practicing “Falun Gong” in the name of curing disease. She would praise those who joined in for being smart, and accused the rest who refused her of being stupid. With her previous popularity among people, she soon organized a team consisting of relatives, friends and neighbors, including her own teenage daughter. The team surrounding her was often of dozens if not hundreds of people, which made her a well-known “Falun Gong” organizer in Lvshun.

Gradually, I felt my wife had become a different person, being more and more interested in “practicing Falun Gong” and frequently mentioning words such as “Master”, “further advancement”, “Perfection”, etc. It seemed that apart from “practicing Falun Gong”, “reciting scriptures” and “recording cultivation experience”, she would pay attention to nothing else. She stopped watching TVs or listening to radios, did less and less household chores, and often stayed out. In the meantime, there were more and more “Falun Gong” related books, audiotapes and leaflets at home. Seeing her like this, I tried my best to dissuade her, but she just ignored me.

In July 1999, the state banned the “Falun Gong” cult organization in accordance with laws. But my wife was so obsessed with it that she refused to believe it or listen to the news. Instead, she became even more obsessed with it and tried hard to achieve a “levelling-up”. She claimed that practitioners had to keep making “further advancement” so that they could have the chance to “eliminate Karma” or “reach Perfection”. Therefore, she either went to meet with other practitioners to exchange experiences, or spent all day at home sitting in meditation or “reciting scriptures”.

AroundApril 2001, because my wife fell for Li Hongzhi’s deceptive remarks that “the truth clarification” activity was decisive for “Dafa disciples” to achieve their ultimate goal of “Perfection”, she began to take on the so-called “Fa-safeguarding” as her job. She went to Beijing several times to distribute “Falun Gong” propaganda materials on streets, frequently left home to take part in cult gatherings, or even took strangers home to listen to audiotapes and practice sitting-in-meditation together. No matter how hard I tried to dissuade her, all my efforts were proved to be useless.

Because of being addicted to “Falun Gong”, she frequently missed her meals and didn’t have a regular bedtime, so, she didn’t have a regular biological clock. From the second half of 1998, she started to suffer from symptoms including discomfort, unstable blood pressure, frequent stomachache, occasional heart discomfort, mental abnormality and blank stares. According to the doctor’s order, I bought her medicine for treatment. But she firmly refused and said that there was no need for practitioners to take any medicine.

After 2005, my wife’s physical condition steadily deteriorated. I urged her to go to hospital for examination and treatment. But she turned down my advice and said thesymptoms was the sign that her “Master” was “eliminating karma” for her, and she had too much “black karma” to be cleaned. As to those medicines I bought her for her appetite and high blood pressure, she threw them all away in front of me and even shouted at me, accusing me of interfering with her “karma elimination”. Watching her gradually becoming as thin as a rake, my mother-in-law begged her to give up her practice and take treatment in hospital. But my wife said if her “Master” knew her faith shook, she would be deemed as the one to be destroyed, and both her “body and soul” would be eradicated by her “Master”.In thatcase, it would also inflict misfortune upon the whole family. Therefore, she would resolutely follow her “Master” and never give it up, otherwise, it would ruin all her previous achievements.

Insuch a foolish way, my wife firmly believed that practicing “Falun Gong” could help her cure the disease, “eliminate Karma” and “achieve Perfection”, and she insisted on not taking any medicine or going to hospital for treatment even though she had difficulties in breathing and then fainted during her sitting in meditation.

In the end, my formerly healthy wife drew her last breath for the “Falun Gong” cult and passed away at 7:21 am on January 9, 2013. The cause of her death on the medical report was “heart failure”.
