Absorbing feedback

2012-03-21

"Why are you helping the Chinese government?” asked a Taiwanese immigrant reader who complained that we wrote about the Chinese consul general sending a letter to the Seattle City Council asking them not to see Shen Yun, a show organized by Falun Gong, a group that opposes the Chinese government.

First, it’s not only us (Seattle Chinese Post) who wrote about this. Other media outlets, too, did so.

Second, we look at this as news. It is interesting and important news, as two groups are trying to organize a Chinese cultural show to outperform each other. A show sponsored by the Chinese government was held on Feb. 3 at the Paramount Theater. Fa’s show will be held at McGaw Hall on Feb. 10.

"You gave the Chinese government publicity,” our reader said.

And we gave publicity to Falun Gong, too, didn’t we?

She said, "You’re right because that would have an opposite effect, causing people to be more curious about Shen Yun." (end)
