In a remote village in Luoxiu Town, Guiping City, Guangxi Province, a simple and honest villager, who is 62 years old now, was once deceived by the heretical fallacies of the Falun Gong cult and thus went through a painful journey as a follower of the evil cult. Now, he has quit the evil cult and founded a rural professional cooperative developing the planting and breeding industries. He has become a major grower of passion fruits and also a well-known leader in getting rich in the countryside, contributing to rural revitalization.

Being led astray because of his ready belief in an evil cult
Liang Wei (a pseudonym) was born in 1958 in a remote mountain village in Guiping City, Guangxi Province. The mountain village was almost inaccessible except for a small road leading to the outside world. Being sharpened by the hardships of life, Liang Wei gained the trust of his fellow villagers because of his enthusiasm and integrity. Consequently, he was elected as the production team leader of the village at the age of 18.
Unexpectedly, two of Liang Wei’s brothers, the first ones who left the mountain village to work away, began to practice Falun Gong in 1996. Later, Liang Wei also practiced Falun Gong while working in Guangdong Province in 1997. Under the influence of Liang Wei and others, not only did nine members of Liang’s family practice Falun Gong, but they also led more than a dozen people in the village to practice it with them.
The Liang brothers also met some Falun Gong practitioners while in Guangdong and obtained a lot of Falun Gong materials. From 2003 onward, whenever Liang Wei returned to his hometown on New Year's holidays or his parents' birthdays, he would bring home plenty of Falun Gong materials. He gave those materials to his friends and relatives or distributed or posted them in public places. Even on New Year's Eve, Liang Wei would take his brothers to the neighboring market to distribute Falun Gong propaganda materials. During the Spring Festival, he would organize a group of practitioners to watch Falun Gong videos at his home. Consequently, Liang's house became a local hideout for spreading Falun Gong and providing Falun Gong materials.
In 2005, Liang Wei's mother and younger brother were arrested for participating in the illegal propaganda activities of Falun Gong. Later, they and others in their hometown quit the Falun Gong cult with the help of anti-evil-cult volunteers. However, Liang Wei didn’t believe that they quit the evil cult of their own free will, thinking that they did so because they had been fed "ecstasy" by the government. To avoid being arrested, Liang Wei hid for a year from place to place, confronting the government by posting anti-government messages on the Falun Gong websites through other practitioners in Guangdong.

Becoming an anti-evil-cult volunteer after quitting Falun Gong
In November 2006, Liang Wei was criminally detained by the public security authorities for the crime of using the cult organization to undermine the implementation of state laws. After his release from prison, Liang Wei completely transformed his mind thanks to the patient education and help from local government staff and anti-evil-cult volunteers. When realizing that he had been deceived by the heretical fallacies of Falun Gong over the years, he couldn't refrain from crying bitterly. He was determined to make up for his mistakes through practical actions.
After Liang Wei's mind was transformed, the local Party committee and government staff visited him every year. They tried to learn about his thoughts, life, work, and family situation to help him solve the practical difficulties he encountered in his work and life. Liang Wei was very grateful for the Party’s and government's concern for him and took the initiative to help the government to educate and save villagers who had fallen into the quagmire of Falun Gong. To save his family members still obsessed with Falun Gong, Liang Wei wrote a long letter to persuade his younger brother at large to surrender himself to the police. With the active cooperation of Liang Wei, the relevant authorities successfully cracked several cases involving Liang’s family. More than 20 Falun Gong practitioners in the village, including Liang’s family members, have all quit the Falun Gong cult and returned to society, leading a happy and stable life now.
Since then, Liang Wei has turned from an enthusiastic spreader of Falun Gong to an anti-evil-cult volunteer.
Founding a cooperative and became a leader in getting rich
After escaping from the control of Falun Gong, Liang Wei had fundamentally changed his mental outlook and way of doing things. He was determined to make up for the time he wasted on Falun Gong in the past. After conduction some market research and environmental investigation, he decided to develop his own business based in his hometown. In 2014, he founded Shilongchong Agricultural Professional Planting and Breeding Cooperative in Luoxiu town of Guiping City, absorbing more than 10 farmers to participate in the cooperative. At the early stage of the cooperative, he encountered some difficulties in the land used for his planting and breeding project. The project required a large area of land, but a dispute over the ownership of partial boundaries of the land he rented stalled the progress of his cooperative. When the local Party committee and government learned about it, they immediately organized relevant departments and personnel to resolve the dispute in cooperation. Apart from solving the land problem for Liang Wei’s cooperative, they delegated the agricultural technology department to provide the cooperative with professional technical guidance on passion fruit-planting, poultry, and livestock-raising for free.
Under Liang Wei's unified planning, management, and operation, the cooperative has been developing year by year and achieved good benefits. Now the cooperative is growing more than 100 mu of passion fruits, and besides, it is also engaged in poultry farming and aquaculture. Its products have been sold to Guangdong Province as well as Beiliu City and Rongxian County of Guangxi Province, with an output value of 1.05 million yuan and a profit of more than 400,000 yuan in 2018.
The living standards of Liang Wei and other members of the cooperative have been improving. Liang Wei plans to continue to expand his cooperative, including the production scale of poultry and aquaculture such as chickens, ducks, fish, etc. Meanwhile, he intends to develop local tourism resources to attract tourists to play in the village by creating agritainment projects. He hopes in this way to continue to build up the industries of the village. Also, he has taken the initiative to donate 50,000 yuan himself while calling on his fellow villagers to contribute money and efforts to build the village roads. With the help of the government and under his leadership, they built village-level cement roads one after another in the village, which made it significantly easier for people to get in and out of the village. Liang Wei has now led the villagers out of poverty and into prosperity, becoming a trusted leader in getting rich in the village.
