Liu Ting (a pseudonym), female, was born in June 1971. She used to be an employee of an aluminum company in Baishan City, Jilin Province, and her husband worked in the same company. In the mid-nineties of the last century, the company was doing well, and the couple planned to save money to buy a heating building in a prosperous area of the city. They were living a harmonious and enjoyable life, and longing for a brighter future.
Just after the Spring Festival in 1997, a friend of Liu Ting’s husband came to their home for a visit and brought with him a book called “Zhuan Falun.” He told the couple that practicing “Falun Gong” according to this book, they could “purify their body”, “eliminate karma,” and “go up to a higher spiritual level”. Moreover, if they reached “Consummation”, they would “ascend to the Kingdom of Heavens,” and enjoy great freedom. At that time, the couple didn’t take these words seriously. After a period of time, the man came to their house again and urged them repeatedly. From then on, the couple began to read the book, and repeatedly recited and copied the relevant contents of it.
Although Liu Ting had no serious physical problems, she suffered from minor ailments constantly such as waist and leg aches. After a period of regular “Fa-studying” and “Falun Gong exercises”, the pain in her waist and legs was greatly alleviated, and she attributed it to “magic powers of Falun Gong”. After that, she and her husband proudly boasted about the benefits of “Falun Gong” at rallies. Furthermore, Liu Ting began to “promote the Fa” to her parents. Her parents lived in the countryside, and Liu Ting vigorously took the trouble of travelling back and forth. Her mother was very busy with farm work, and had no time to “study the Fa” or practice “Falun Gong.” However, her father gradually became obsessed with “Falun Gong” after hearing that it could help him to “eliminate karma, cure diseases, and keep fit”, or even “go up to higher levels” and “reach Consummation”.
At the end of the 1990s, the restructuring of state-owned enterprises was in its full swing. In order to practice “Falun Gong” wholeheartedly, and to “leave this secular world” and “get into the splendid Falun world” as soon as possible, the couple resolutely chose to be laid off and then returned home, devoting themselves to “study the Fa” and “practice Falun Gong”. In order to get closer to the “Real Body” of “Master Li”, the couple always tried to choose yellow clothes when shopping, which enormously amused people around them.
In July 1999, the state banned “Falun Gong” according to law, but the couple were so obsessed that they were not a bit moved by reprimands or the pleadings of their relatives and friends, calling them "demons" who were “hindering their cultivation.”
In August 2003, Liu Ting’s father called to say that her mother had fallen ill with tuberculosis. Over the years, her mother had been working hard, and even after ill, she chose to bear the pain. So for her mother, the serious illness was actually the result of long-term neglect. Liu Ting told her father that “One person practices Falun Gong will benefit the whole family,” and that only “Falun Gong” could save her mother. “Hurry up, father! You cultivate hard, and eliminate karma for Mum. The Law Bodies of Master Li will protect my mother.”
Previously, every time Liu Ting called to greet her mother, her mother would say she was OK. Liu Ting thought it was her cultivation that had protected her mother. Watching her bedridden mother’s haggard face, Liu Ting couldn’t help shedding tears. What’s even more shocking was that, during her mother’s illness, her father had already engaged in “Male-Female Dual Cultivation” with a young female practitioner at the village. Most of the family’s money was spent on his father’s “practice” or the female practitioner, but her mother had not been able to receive proper treatment.
When relatives, friends and neighbors asked Liu Ting to take her mother to a hospital, she rejected it flatly, saying, “The root cause of a person’s illness is ‘karma’. Once a person is sick, taking medicine and receiving treatment is to press the disease back into the body, leading to the emergence of new diseases.” Then she began to send out “Gong powers” to her mother at home, intending to cure her mother’s illness. But before long, her mother died of illness. Liu Ting, however, thought that’s because her mother had too much “karma”, as her mother always refused to practice “Falun Gong”.
Liu Ting’s husband used to be a carrier of hepatitis B virus. Before practicing “Falun Gong”, he followed the doctor’s advice, paid attention to the balance between work and rest, and took medicine regularly when he felt uncomfortable, so generally speaking, his physical condition was stable. However, after he practiced “Falun Gong”, he was bewitched by Li Hongzhi’s “karma-elimination theory”. To “get into higher levels”, he threw away all the medicines, and suffered a lot from serious diseases.
In the spring of 2007, a dull pain in her husband’s upper right abdomen became intensified. He told others happily that a “Law Wheel” had been installed for him by the “Master”, and the “Master” had said the “Law Wheel” was extremely valuable, “it’s a rotating high-energy material body” with wisdom and intelligence. Many people who had practiced for thousands of years wanted it but could not get it! Liu Ting also felt happy that her husband had gained the favor of "Master Li".
Unfortunately, all this was just a beautiful imagination of the couple. The husband’s illness was getting worse and worse, and his nasal cavity was bleeding from time to time. Relatives and friends warned that her husband’s condition had changed abruptly, and he should go to a big hospital for diagnosis and treatment without delay. At this point, her husband explained, it’s because he hadn’t been reaching the “advanced levels” in learning the Fa, and his “karma” was too big to be cleaned up.
After hearing that their son’s condition was getting worse, Liu Ting’s parents-in-law kept crying, begging them to go to the hospital immediately for their sake. As an only child, her husband once wavered somewhat in his determination. But Liu Ting said at this critical moment: “We are all real Dafa disciples, and the ‘Master’ will surely protect us.” The parents-in-law protested: “Don't listen to Li Hongzhi's nonsense. When people get sick, they have to take injections and medicines, and we must believe in science.” As soon as Liu Ting learned that her parents-in-law were blaming “Master” Li Hongzhi, she immediately shouted out angrily: “Don’t destroy ‘Dafa’, don’t scold my ‘Master’! Or you’ll be going to the hell!”
Her husband’s illness was from bad to worse, and he fainted many times. One night in the winter of 2007, her husband’s abdomen began to swell up, and the pain intensified, making him unable to sit up. At this point, Liu Ting sit beside her husband, practicing, meditating, and reciting the scriptures piously. She read the book “Zhuan Falun” over and over again, praying to “Master” to protect her husband. Later, she called two fellow practitioners into their house, surrounding her husband, and constantly “sending righteous thoughts” to “dispel the demon” of disease, but it didn’t work at all. The husband’s lips trembled a few times, and then he stared straight at Liu Ting, as if he wanted to say something, but nothing came out. Finally, his eyes slowly closed. And, Liu Ting’s husband passed away unwillingly.
After her husband left, Liu Ting began to reflect on herself. She and her husband had been so devout to Master Li, she did not understand why they hadn’t obtained the “blessings” promised by “Falun Gong”, let alone “reaching Consummation”, “ascending to heaven” or “getting into higher levels”. With the patient and meticulous help and education of the anti-cult volunteers, her conscience devoured by the cult gradually awakened, and the basic rationality also came back bit by bit. The locked window of her soul was gradually opened, and she finally realized the harmful nature of the “Falun Gong” cult and her own mistakes.
Liu Ting, who has completely freed herself from cult, can’t help crying bitterly whenever she thinks of her mother and her husband. She dare not to imagine, what kind of a dangerous road she would embark if she continued the so-called “cultivation”!
