Zhang Zhicheng and Wang Shumei were both peasants in Cuijiayu town, Yishui Country, Shandong Province. And they once had a lively and lovely son. Being obsessed with “Falun Gong”, they believed in the fallacies of “curing diseases by eliminating karma” boasted by Li Hongzhi, and refused any medical treatment for their son’s pneumonia. As a result, their young son lost his life, and they lost their only son.
In 1998, Zhang Zhicheng went out to work with a fellow townsman named Zhang Jingqiang. At that time, Zhang Zhicheng often felt uncomfortable in his stomach, so he decided to try his luck at “Falun Gong” after hearing Zhang Jingqiang say that practicing “Falun Gong” can cure all kinds of diseases. By practicing “Falun Gong” after work for about half a year, Zhang Zhicheng felt his stomachache was greatly alleviated, which made him fully convinced that his “Falun Gong” Master, Li Hongzhi, was a true “God”, and that not only could he get fully recovered, but also he could get rid of all misfortune in the world and finally ascend to the kingdom of heaven as long as he followed his “Master” Li Hongzhi’s lead wholeheartedly. But actually, what Zhang Zhicheng didn’t understandwere that regular exercises wouldcontribute to a build-up of a strong body, and that positive self-suggestion could make people feel relieved and relaxed and help turn a quick temper into a mild one, which were the main reasons why his stomach condition gradually improved.
Driven by his blind worship of “Falun Gong”, Zhang Zhicheng started to draw his family in, therefore, Wang Shumei, his kind-hearted wife, became his first “fellow practitioner”. In order to cultivate together with his wife, Zhang Zhicheng stopped going out to work. When asked by his wife what to do if he was at home all day and then had no money, Zhang Zhicheng answered that everything else in the world was worthless because what they were cultivating was the Falun Dafa that could make them achieve “Consummation” and “ascend to paradise”. Afterwards, all the couple did was “learning Dafa” and “practicing Falun Gong”. Under the influence of Zhang Zhicheng, Wang Shumei, once a child-loving wife, stopped caring for their son any more. And their 6-year-old son had to frequently eat and rest at his grandparent’s place.
Instead of caring for their son’s normal life, they tried to force their son to practice Falun Gong with them by sitting in meditation. It is too much for a little child to sit still for a long time. Therefore, after some time, their son would rather not stay with them even more.
In March 1999, their son caught a cold and had a high fever. The grandfather asked Zhang Zhicheng to send the child to hospital immediately. Zhang Zhicheng promised to take his son to see a doctor, but actually, he took his son with a high fever back to his home, because the couple believed that their “Master” would “eliminate karma” for him, as long as they ask their “Master” for helpwith true devotion. In order to make their son get better as soon as possible, the couple were absorbed in their sitting in meditation day and night, frequently missing their meals and sleep, begging for help from their “Master” by mumbling “Master, Master” incessantly. Of course, such “devout cultivation” didn’t do their son any good. When the worried grandfather arrived at the couple’s place to check on his grandson’s situation, he only found out that his grandson was in a coma because of fever. The grandfather put the boy on his back right away in a hurry to a hospital, but unexpectedly, he was blocked by Zhang Zhicheng who told his father that his grandson would be fine because the “Master” would bless the child. He also added that the method of “eliminating karma to cure diseases” could not afford to be leaked to anyone else. Otherwise, the method wouldn’t work.
As the result, the grandfather could only helplessly watch the boy’s face aglow with fever, while the poor boy couldn’t even speak. The more the grandpa thought about it, the more he worried and more afraid of the situation. He alone ran desperately to Mr. Jiang’s home for help, who was the village party secretary. With the help of Secretary Jiang, the sick boy was taken to the township hospital and diagnosed with respiratory obstruction caused by pneumonia. In spite of best efforts from the hospital, the lovely boy passed away and left them forever due to the lack of timely rescue.
What was more ironic was that,the couple did not feel sad about the death of their son,they touted their son had reached “Consummation” and “ascended to heaven”.
In July 1999, the state banned “Falun Gong” in accordance with national laws. With the help of community volunteers, the couple finally saw clearly the deceptive nature and real danger of “Li Hongzhi” and his “Falun Gong”. Only then did they realize that they had lost their son forever simply because they were gullible enough to believe the “karma-eliminating” fallacy. The remorse for their stupidity and hatred towards Li Hongzhi made them wish to skinthe “Master” alive, but it was too late to undo what had been done.
Although their little daughter is already in high school now, the couple still miss their son very much, let alone forgive themselves for being ignorant back then. Whenever recalling those past events, Zhang Zhicheng always says that he sincerely hopes those who are obsessed with “Falun Gong” could come to their sense soon, and that they should learn his lesson and stay away from any cult so that they could live a normal life again.
